Mattel Updates – Ghostbusters, Anti-Monitor Points, and MOTU Classics

I have been doing a little traveling, so I’ve bundled up the last three updates from Mattel’s Facebook page.

In regards to Mattel’s update on Masters of the Universe Classics (the third note attached), I’m hoping that Mattel and the Four Horsemen will be able to incorporate some of the design updates that we saw in the 200x line, even if the angular styling of that line will be left out.

In particular, I thought the non-humans were particularly good.  For example, check out the 200x Whiplash compared to his vintage counterpart.  Which look would you prefer to see in Classics styling?

Ghostbusters Egon package revealed!

Details about Anti-Monitor points, raffle and free figure

Hey SDCC fans!

We’ve posted a lot of this info before, but since SDCC is now two weeks away we wanted to get all of this info out there again.

If you have been saving your Anti-Monitor points (found on the back of all DCU Infinite Heroes figures) you can exchange them only at SDCC.

The first 50 points gets you a FREE 3 3/4″ IH Anti-Monitor figure and two raffle tickets. For each additional 25 points you will get one more raffle ticket. So if you have 100 points you can get 4 tickets and 1 free figure.

Note that guests will be limited to one free figure per convention. Your badge will be stamped when you recieve your free figure. The figures and point redemtion will be handeled at the main Mattel marketing booth. You also have the option of BUYING additional 3 3/4″ figures at the retail booth for $10.00 (limit 6 per guest per line wait). This figure will also be available on MattyCollector.com after the show for the same price. Please do not go to the retail booth for your free figure. Free figures and raffle tickets can only be redeemed at the main marketing booth at the central kiosk.

The raffle tickets will be good for a 30 inch giant hand-made Anti-Monitor with light up eyes. At least one 30 inch figure will be raffled off each day. Tickets will remain in the pool thoughhout the convention, so if you do not win on the first day, you can still try and win everyday at 3:30 when we hold the raffle. You do not need to be present to win, but if you do not claim your prize by the next day, it will be re-raffled off.

Points are only redeemable at the show (as announced at SDCC 2008). So if you can’t make it to the show, see if a friend can bring them along for you to get your free figure and raffle tickets!

Make sure to come out and see all the new DC Universe toys. Some will be out Wednesday night with more put out after our Fan Panel at 11:00 on Friday in room 2.

Check out MattyCollector.com for more SDCC news and info as we get closer to the show!

A note on MOTUC style

A lot of fans have been posting online wish lists and remarks about the style of MOTU Classics. While we did say in some recent Q & As that we will look at the 2002-2004 line for influence, I want to clear up any confusion about the look of the figure sculpts in the Classics line.

The hyper detail 2002 look is has been “retired”. You won’t see any hyper stylized figures in the Classics line. But what you will see is figures from the 2002 series done in “Classics” style (such as King Grayskull). If a character had unique armor or weapons in the 2002 series, we will look at finding ways to bring that into the Classics line, but we won’t, for example, be doing a “2002 Hordak” as we already included his 2002 staff with the current figure. 2002 Hordak and Classics Hordak is the same character, just sculpted in a different style.

The style behind the Classics line is that these are figures based on the look and feel of the original MOTU 1981-1987 line but with today’s modern articualtion and detail. We will look at doing POP, NA and “200X” figures in the Classics line, but they will be done in the same style as other Classics figures, not in the hyper detail look of the 200X line.

We know there are a lot of fans of the 2002-2004 line out there. And one day we may go back and do a new line of figures in this style. But the Classics line is an all new line, unrelated to the look of the 2002 – 2004 line. We have some really great figures in the wings waiting to be shown off at SDCC. Although not every fan will get exactly what they want, their are some great surprises in store!

See you in San Diego!

  1. I believe that Mattel has completely disrespected it’s collector base with this monumental screw up. Obviously none of these people worked at NBC back in the late 60’s or they would know better. What total moron requires customers to drive or fly cross country during a recession for an action figure? After all, the points are still out there on the shelves and the con is over. Wasting an opportunity like this is like saying “Fire me, I don’t have a clue.” It doesn’t have to be the same figure, maybe some other figure or set. Personally I would like to see the original 3 Legionaires in their original first costumes as a 3 piece set. (HINT! HINT!) Ok I’ll put the sledgomatic down now.
