Another one of the Mattel exclusives going on sale tomorrow, here’s a quick look at the Ghostbusters exclusive slimed variant of Egon Spengler.

Mattel has always got great packaging on its exclusives.  For Ghostbusters, the figures are visible through a nice display window that’s flanked by Zuul’s Terror Dogs.  Behind the figures, the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is looming and making a grab.  Not quite as dynamic as the hand clutching the DC Infinite Heroes (maybe my favorite packaging ever), where the hand is actually part of the bubble, but it’s still a nice effect.

The back includes some personnel file details that introduce the character to the 7 people on Earth who have never seen Ghostbusters.  It includes a quote from Egon about not crossing streams – for about a decade, starting way back in high school, my buddies would yell that whenever we were outside and urinating together in a drunken haze.  As funny as I found it then, I will have to look up on IMDB a number of Egon quotes that could have also worked.

Finally, the package is resealable.  They did that with Lobo 2 years ago too, and I hope they do it for more figures in the future, even though my wife always finds the packaging and throws it out anyways.

There’s great detail on the figure, and the articulation works well – even the elbros, which are nicely obscured by the elbow pads.  He can grip the nozzle of his proton pack (which is extremely soft)  in both hands, and that’s a deal-clincher.

Slimer is translucent.  He’s sure to be released again, but I suspect he’ll be a solid green next time.

I notice now that I didn’t take any pictures with figures from other lines.  I’m probably getting too tired to keep posting pics tonight.  Egon stands shoulder to shoulder with the Marvel Legends Quicksilver.  That means he’s dwarfed by MOTU and DC Universe Classics.  I don’t have a Movie Masters figure handy, but I suspect he may be just a little small for that line too.  If you need the visual, check out Veebee’s review from about 2 weeks ago.

My final take?  If you’re a fan of the movie, this figure deserves your love.
