San Diego Comic-Con 2010 – Mattel DC Universe Classics – Updates

Wave 16 (1200x674).jpg

We’re slowly uploading our video from the Mattel DC Universe panel from earlier today – the hotel wireless network is “the little engine that can’t” right now. While you’re waiting on that, here’s pictures from the new DC figures put out today – we have DC Universe Classics wave 16, Green Lantern Classics, the Legion of Super Heroes (at least what has been sculpted thus far), and a new figure in the All-Star repaint category for Toys R Us.

You may also want to check out the DC Universe Classics pics from preview night. Enjoy!

Wave 16 – in my excitement over Jonah Hex, I completely forgot to take pics of the C&C Bane two shelves down. Will correct this oversight tomorrow.

Green Lantern Classics – I included some closeups of Kyle’s arms and legs to confirm he, like most of wave 16, has double-jointed elbows and knees.

  1. Why must Mattel toy with my emotions so much?

I think I read elsewhere that Wave 16 will be another Walmart exclusive. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) Why do they always stick the characters I really want in those damn exclusive line? AzBats looks fantastic! and a CnC Bane? I want one! And why put Riddler in another Walmart line?

The GL Classics look great, too. I can’t wait to have Arkillo face off with Kilowog!

  2. Matty: Freaking awesome stuff! I wanted a BAF Arkillo and Bane! Lanterns! Merry Christmas to me!

  3. what about the lanterns (kyle rayner, black lantern amon sur, black hand, yellow lanterns and manhunter)is the size just for show?? either way they look awesome! i wanna see hal jordan parallax and a more modern guy gardner?

  4. a lot of the newer stuff that Mattel put out after their panel were painted 2-up prototypes. the 4H sculpt a lot of their stuff at double the size (hence the 2-up name), and those get shrunk down to 6-inch scale for production. so in the timeline for figures, we’ll first see hand-painted 2-ups, then hand-painted prototypes in the final scale, then production samples, and finally production figures.

there’s so many different lanterns that could be made in Green Lantern Classics – I’m having a hard time figuring out my most wanted!

  5. Mattel, if ur listening, please……the wave 16 robin is soooo fine, with the extra articulation and all that stuff. BUT please, do not make the following waves (wave 17, 18, 19…) and the re-issues the same articulation with wave 16 robin. If you do that ALL our previous collections (wave 1,2,3,4…) MUST all be replaced with the “new trend” of these articulations. We dont wanna re-buy new batmans, supermans, etc just to be abreast with the new Dick Grayson robin. If you do that, it will be a burden to us collectors. It means we have to collect again. I just wish we could finally end our collections with the same line and same articulations. I have many collections already. I aint that rich.

I can’t tell you how strongly I disagree with this. The company shouldn’t try to make improvements as the line goes along? Adding new articulation to new figures does not take anything away from the old figures. It just makes the new ones a little more special. I’ve seen the same silly arguments over not giving shipping boxes for MOTUC or GBC because the first few didn’t have them.

Even if you’re right that it would make some buyers re-buy figures, do you really think you telling them you’ll end up giving them more money if they continue to add articulation is going to make them NOT want to do it?
