DC Universe Classics Swamp Thing Articulation Pics

Mattel has updated their Facebook page with pics of the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Swamp Thing, showing its articulation.

I think these show that range of motion will be hampered by the outer skin. I’d still like to know if there will be any underlying swivels, like in the biceps, wrists, and thighs – but I’m guessing even if those points of articulation are there, they won’t be much use. I think I would have preferred they gone with a more standard approach to this figure.

  1. Yeah I’m none too fond of his belly roll. Still looks pretty, but I think they probably took all the action out of the action figure.

  2. Agreed. I think he looks amazing, but I know I won’t be crunching that ab joint when posing him on my shelf. I don’t see a bicep swivel either.

I would love for Mattel to show us the figure underneath!

  3. It looks perfectly nice, but it still seems to me that this decision was made more for the novelty of this gimmick and less for what would make this figure the best it could be. It’s a great sculpt and good paintjob, for sure. But giving it (at least close to) standard DCUC articulation would make it look just as good, and probably be more posable and would fit in better with the rest of our DCUC collections.

  4. Is that a tear developing already at the right wrist? I think Mattel might have saved me some money on this one.

  5. Yes, that looks like a tear/crack. I’ve seen others also mention that the other surface might not last long, one or two years, before it dries up and sdtats to crack. My main concern is that he also looss his waist joint. Yeah, all his swivels are compromised. I was kinda digging this figure at first, but now I’m digging it much less. :/

  6. I understand the criticism but I for one think this looks great! I just got more excited for this figure

  7. Hey Mattel – if it’s at all possible, I strongly suggest changing this to a standard DCUC-style, and not the Barbie articulation.

Or release the same figure later as a C&C, and let us know you’re doing this before SDCC so we don’t all get this just to have a not very posable, soon-to-be-deteriorating Swamp Thing placeholder.

  8. The Bruce, there’s no way they can change this now. As far as making another Swamp Thing down the road, one that’s more traditionally sculpted, I doubt so highly that we’ll ever see that. Neitlich have to be extremely proud of the money they must have saved by developing a skin to put over what I assume to be a standard C&C buck hindering the articulation underneath and tearing if a collector tries to utilize it. His answer, if he ever answers questions about this, will be something akin to “We’re very proud of the Swamp Thing figure we made for SDCC, and he’s a character that does not necessarily work so well for our standard retail market. We have no plans to revisit Swamp Thing while there are so many other great characters out there who have yet to receive the DC Universe Classics treatment.”

  9. And even if they do plan to make another Swamp Thing at some point (which wouldn’t surprise me), you think they’d tell people *before* they buy this one? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

  10. I was going to get this, but ive totally changed my mind after seeing these photos. These are the damages I was afraid of, and it seems they havent done anything ti avoid them.

My Sleepy Hollow headless horseman from McFarland had rubber legs that now over 10 years later are completely disintegrated. I can see the same happening to this guy.

  11. Swamp Thing… pity for the high fragile coberture, is sure what the figure is really fragile in that side, wait more of mattel? NO, Mattel it does not show intentions of improving the quality of materials

  12. Talyn, you mencionated 10 years for your sleppy hollow of Macfarlane Toys, how much time do they give him to a product of Mattel?

the products of McFarlane Toys are made by durable materials, because I have several figures and can say that in durability they overpass to Hasbro and Neca

  13. WOW!!!

I don’t really like this figure at all. I was hoping for a new sculpted character. Why not make it like ML Man-Thing.
