Design Your Own Armor with Hasbro’s Iron Man 3 “Iron Assemblers” Action Figures

A2973 War Machine

Tony Stark has nothing on you – with Hasbro’s upcoming Iron Assemblers line from Iron Man 3, you’ll have the ability to design your own Iron Man armors for a completely customized armory. You may have seen Hasbro’s announcement of the new line at USAToday.com – they’ve followed it up with these pics and the official press release. I’m glad to see these are 3.75-inches – the USA Today piece listed a confusing 3.25-inches – so these should hopefully be scale-compatible with your existing line of movie and Marvel Universe figures.

I like the idea – it’s a creative mash-up of the action figure and builder categories, and Iron Man is a great property for this kind of product. With a single figure, Hasbro says you’ll be able to create 25 or more variations. But the real kicker is that the armor parts can be combined across figures, for hundreds of possibilities from the line’s planned 16 individual figures.

In 2013, kids and fans can recreate the excitement of the IRON MAN 3 film with the buildable ASSEMBLERS action figure line. Each figure features an Interchangeable Armor System, allowing one figure to create more than 25 armor combinations and allowing armor to be switched out between the 16 available figures in the line to create 100’s more combinations. Each figure sold separately.

I would have liked to see them retain the articulation schemes we’ve seen in the earlier Marvel 3.75-inch lines, but Hasbro has pared it down. It looks like the figures will have ball-jointed shoulders and T-hips. I’m guessing there’s maybe a neck swivel or maybe a simple ball-jointed neck in there too, but that’s probably it. Some of the figures look like they could have used a little more paint too. While these factors lessen the appeal a bit for me, I expect kids will really take to the builder features of these toys.

We’ll get more details on Iron Assemblers and more from the Iron Man 3 and Marvel toy lines at Toy Fair in just a few weeks. Stay tuned!
