Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Black Panther (Movie), Red King, and Rogue

Border Patrol - Marvel Legends Black Panther, Red King, and Rogue

In this edition of Border Patrol, we’ve found three Marvel Legends customs that we’re unlikely to see in the actual line any time soon.

  • Black Panther (movie) by bigoso_customs: The Black Panther movie isn’t slated to be released for another three years, but there’s nothing like getting a jump on getting the inevitable action figures for Marvel’s Phase 3. The design is based on some concept art that’s leaked for the movie. Ends Friday, July 24, at 9:44PM PT.
  • Red King by Loose Collector: Hasbro had originally planned to release Planet Hulk’s Red King in a follow-up to the Hulk-themed Fin Fang Foom wave way back in 2008/2009, but that got shelved as the line lost traction at retail and went on hiatus. At that time, I don’t think they could’ve matched what Loose Collector’s done with this custom, but today? They may be able to come closer, but it’s hard to see them making this character now. Ends Thursday, July 23, at 6:35PM PT.
  • Rogue by nartardee: Rogue is one of the remaining “lost figures” from when Hasbro made the switch from running changes for variants in the line – she would have been a swap-out for Emma Frost from the Jubilee wave. While this custom is from the Jim Lee costume vs the Marvel Now! look, it does highlight that there are better options available for the base body. When I talked to Dwight Stall at SDCC, he mentioned that if Hasbro does revisit the remaining lost figures, he’d probably re-do them now than releasing them as they’d been shown before. Ends Wednesday, July 29, at 4:29AM PT.

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

CustomCon 39 is coming! Entry deadline is August 1.

Mattel and the Four Horsemen Provide Post-SDCC Mattycollector Updates

Mattel and Four Horsemen post-SDCC updates

The folks at Mattycollector and the Four Horsemen have provided some post-SDCC updates. Mattel provided the words, and the 4H have posted a bunch of pics – we’ve combined them here.

For the tl;dr version, the three subs (Collector’s Choice, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe aka Filmation, and Thundercats Classics) will be offered at different times (now, October, and early 2016, respectively). Matty will work with Digital River on how to combine subs. Snake Mountain will be 10 – 20% smaller. And getting Power Con exclusives into non-attendees’ hands is He-Man.org’s problem.

Walgreens Teases Exclusive Marvel Legends Ant-Man and Daredevil

Walgreens Marvel Legends Ant-Man and Daredevil Teaser

If you check out the Walgreens site for their exclusive Marvel Legends Ant-Man and Daredevil, right now you’ll see teasers for both Marvel Legends figures plus a third Hasbro exclusive for My Little Pony. We first saw the Ant-Man and DD variants at SDCC – they look great. According to Marvel’s announcement, Ant-Man should be going on sale at Walgreens on July 20. I’m guessing sometime in September for Daredevil.

For those of you not familiar with these looks, Ant-Man is in his Black Ant costume, and it’s supposed to be Eric O’Grady (the third Ant-Man, after Hank Pym and Scott Lang) under there. O’Grady was originally the Irredeemable Ant-Man, a fun take on the character by Robert Kirkman that explores what happens when a not-so-good guy gets his hands on Pym’s latest suit. While the Black Ant look is cool, I’d also love to get him in his Irredeemable costume.

The yellow and red Daredevil costume is DD’s original costume, before he donned the all red suit. The costume got featured again in Daredevil: Yellow by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, a recounting of DD’s origin.

Hot Toys Announces Avengers: Age of Ultron Maria Hill

Hot Toys Avengers Maria Hill 01

Avengers fans have been waiting for SHIELD Agent Maria Hill for a while now. I think when Hot Toys made Nick Fury and then Agent Coulson, it was clear that they could go wide and deep in the franchise. Now that they’ve announced Maria Hill, I believe that leaves only Quicksilver as the sole remaining main character from the Avengers ensemble that’s left to do. And if you want to go even wider and deeper, there’s still Dr. Erik Selvig available.

Maria Hill is a “Toy Fair” exclusive – in Hot Toys parlance, that means that she’s available only at various toy shows this summer. We first saw the Hot Toys Maria Hill at SDCC – while her expression is a bit stoic, I think it’s a pretty good likeness for Cobie Smulders. But since they’re the official distributor of Hot Toys in the United States, you can pre-order the Marvel Maria Hill Sixth Scale Figure from Sideshow Collectibles. Happy shopping!

Hot Toys Announces Marvel’s Ant-Man

Hot Toys Ant-Man 01

Marvel’s Ant-Man is in theaters today (get tickets to Ant-Man on Fandango) and Hot Toys is ready with its 1/6 scale Ant-Man figure. He comes with a helmeted head sculpt with goggles that can light up when it’s in the closed position. The helmet’s visor can flip up to reveal Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. No pics yet of the Paul Rudd head sculpt – I’m guessing there’s more work to be done on it, or it still has to go through approval (or both). Ant-Man also comes with a few accessories that are a mystery to me, at least until I see the movie, as well as a tiny Ant-Man that is just over an inch tall.

I got to see the Ant-Man prototype first hand at SDCC, and he looks great! Hot Toys had their Yellowjacket prototype there too, but he has still to be officially announced. You can pre-order the Marvel Ant-Man Sixth Scale Figure at Sideshow Collectibles. Excelsior!
