Kasual Friday Big Screen and Comic Book Superstars Preview

It’s been raining in California for days, but I can’t complain – it’s the start of the weekend and I’m opening toys. Today’s booty – a bunch of Big Screen and Comic Book Superstars from Kasual Friday. In the mix are the figures from Rocky II, III, and IV, and Ash from Army of Darkness, Robocop, and the Phantom. Our longtime pal Scott George, one of the founders of Kasual Friday, sent these over from the East Coast (where the weather hasn’t been much better). Thanks, Scott!

Now, it will take me some time to get take proper pics, but this being Friday and the toys being from Kasual Friday, I felt compelled to put something up today. And, when I do have better pics, we’ll also do a Free Stuff giveaway of the Italian Stallion and Clubber Lang. One lucky winner will get the pair with Rocky in his yellow trunks, because we all know it’s more fun when Clubber wins. And yes, I know – Clubber wears the blue trunks in that fight, but as Wesley Snipes says, always bet on black. (Translation: we only have Clubber in his black trunks.)

So stay tuned for the pics and giveaway, and have a great weekend!

ThreeA Toys Lasstranaut 3AA Membership Exclusive by Moldie XIII

Our long-time friend Moldie is back with a review of the 3AA membership exclusive figure, the Lasstranaut. Check out his previous reviews herehere, here, here, here, and here. Thanks Moldie!

Ahhhh, the ThreeA Toys 2014 membership package… bought and paid for in mid-January, and put on weird indefinite and uncommunicated hold for what seemed like ages and told only that the “seamless lower body was tougher to do than we anticipated,” but that we’d, of course, be very happy with the end results. Promise.

Well, the set’s finally here, and while I have to fully disclose that I wasn’t overly excited about buying it in the first place (a year-long 15% discount does stupid things to a collectors brain), the figure doesn’t disappoint in disappointing.

Masters of the Universe Classics Club Eternia – Map of the Horde Empire Viewer

Each year when the Club Eternia exclusives ship, I publish one of the more popular posts on AFP – the map viewer for the Club Eternia exclusive map. This year, Mattel shipped the Map of Horde Empire with the very mysterious Unnamed One. I still don’t know what the Unnamed One looks like, because I’m away from home.

  • Position your mouse over areas of the map to magnify it.
  • To zoom in or out, scroll up or down with your mousewheel.

If I’m away, how did I get this map done? Big thanks again to my wife, who made this possible again this year. Enjoy exploring the Horde Empire, and be sure to visit our previous installments:

Were You Hoping for GotG Marvel Legends from the Comics? Star-Lord is Coming

Star-Lord comic panel

While I am sure there’s many fans who are psyched for the movie-based Marvel Legends figures for Guardians of the Galaxy, I know that there’s also a group who hoped for comics-based versions of GotG. After all, we’ve already gotten Drax the Destroyer and Rocket Raccoon. Drax joined Marvel Legends courtesy of the Arnim Zola wave in 2012, and Rocket Raccoon was the second mini-BAF from last year.

Rest assured, Hasbro has the makings for Star-Lord already produced, and you may already have the proof in your collection.

Play Imaginative New 52 Super Alloy Superman by Jedd

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Singaporean toy company Play Imaginative threw their hat into the sixth scale ring with the release of the Super Alloy Batman figure in 2012, designed by Jim Lee and not quite New 52. Play Imaginative has continued the Super Alloy range, inspired by Japanese die-cast metal “Chogokin” toys. Iron Man seemed a natural fit and they’ve produced multiple Iron Man “marks” across three scales. DC fans (such as myself) can rejoice in the fact that Play Imaginative is also representin’ for the House of El.

This is a guest review by Jedd Jong. In the past, Jedd has provided great coverage of the Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention for AFP.
