If you can’t make the around the world flight to Hong Kong to see the Iron Man 3 Suit Up at Hysan Place exhibit, maybe you can check out something closer to home, at the Happiest Place on Earth, no less. Disneyland is temporarily home to the Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries exhibit. Much like Suit Up in Hong Kong, this show includes a life-sized Hall of Armor and a virtual exhibit where you can suit up as Iron Man – I wonder if it’s the same exhibit as the Hong Kong show.
The Disney show includes some memorabilia from the first two Iron Man movies, but it doesn’t include the showcase of Hot Toys Iron Man product that served as a scaled down companion to the life-sized Hall of Armor at the Hong Kong show. I’m wondering if a road trip is in order.

It’s no secret – I am tremendously excited for (and a little scared of) the collaboration that 3A Toys announced with Marvel Comics on Friday. My re-entry point for toy collecting started with 6-inch Marvel Legends, but 1/6 scale figures have started to break my toy budget wide open – Hot Toys and 3A Toys are the main culprits. With the Marvel movies, Hot Toys might as well take my ATM card and PIN, and now 3A Toys will threaten to do that with its re-imagined comic book figures.
Fans of 3A know that they’ve got a very unique style – for those of us with mainstream taste, this combination with Marvel might seem odd. That’s one of the things on my mind as I reach out to Ashley Wood. Ash is the artist and design force behind 3A Toys. I’m sure there’s many more questions, but I wanted to know what Ash thinks of when he thinks Marvel, and how that’s influencing the Marvel figures 3A is making.
AFP: What were some of the Marvel Comics you first read? Have any personal favorite books, teams, or eras of comics? What books are you reading today?
Ashley Wood: I always enjoyed the Avengers, Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Marvel Team-Up, the X-men, Captain America, Tomb of Dracula, Daredevil and so on. The late 70′s to mid to late 80′s are my personal golden period. But I’m very fond of the Tales of Suspense with Kirby Captain America stories in them. I kinda collect the trades from that personal golden period now, but that’s mainly due to not visiting comic shops like I once did and not knowing what the great titles are.

By Ron, on February 19th, 2013 Disney’s acquisition of LucasArts didn’t pique my attention all that much. I think my Star Wars excitement hit its pinnacle when the Original Trilogy was rereleased in theaters in advance of the Prequels – and declined steadily with the release of each subsequent movie. But it’s increasing pretty steadily – the announcement of solo movies on top of Episode VII, the introduction of the Hasbro Star Wars Black Series of 6-inch Star Wars figures, and J.J. Abrams taking the director’s chair has helped a lot.
Not being a 4-inch Star Wars collector, these exclusive sets aren’t on my most wanted list – but I do feel a hankering to ride Star Tours again…

By Ron, on December 14th, 2012 What if Star Wars figures came out in Marvel Legends scale? – Star Wars Legends Concept Logo (read: fake)
Fans of 6-inch super-articulated figure lines like Marvel Legends and DC Universe Classics have long been hoping for scale-compatible figures from the Star Wars universe. It’s always been long odds, because Hasbro has been reluctant to rock the 3.75-inch boat that’s powered one of their only evergreen licenses. But the wait for 6-inch Star Wars may soon be over, according to this insider rumor posted at Rebelscum.com. Six-inch Star Wars figures may be coming our way, and the big surprise, if it can be believed, is that they won’t be coming to us from Hasbro.

By Ron, on June 30th, 2012 I haven’t been to a Disney Store in a while – since long before the Marvel acquisition. Have they had a lot of Marvel items on the shelves?
Like flies caught in a web, everyone is buzzing about the new Amazing Spider-Man movie, and Diamond Select Toys has already put out some amazing collectables based on the film! In addition to a movie-inspired series of their popular Minimates mini-figures, DST also recently shipped their Marvel Select Spider-Man and Lizard action figures to comic shops and specialty stores. Well, now MarvelStore.com, DisneyStore.com and physical Disney Store locations will have two special editions of Spidey, as well!
The first exclusive Marvel Select figure will be a version of Spider-Man with interchangeable gloveless hands, plus an interchangeable unmasked Peter Parker head, featuring the likeness of Andrew Garfield. The other exclusive figure will be an entirely metallic version of the regular Spidey figure, depicting the extra-shiny side of the new, big-screen Spidey-suit! Look for both special editions to arrive on MarvelStore.com, DisneyStore.com and Disney Store shelves in early July!

Maybe it’s just me, but with the San Diego Comic-Con exclusives Mattel revealed yesterday, I am starting to think they are losing touch with their core market for their collector-oriented lines – the little boys that grew up with toys from He-Man and DC Comics and now have a strong nostalgic pull toward their grown-up versions. I understand the Cars, the Tiny Titans and the Polly Pockets – those same guys now have little boys and girls of their own, and SDCC has become a family event. But the rest seem odd or somehow miss the mark.
