While I didn’t speak to anyone at the NECA booth (everyone looked very busy), I did take some pictures of their action figures in HeroClix, Player Select video games, and movie license categories, excluding Harry Potter and Twilight. Sorry, fans of those two franchises – I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

This is a very cool announcement. A very long time ago, my wife’s father had a set of Watchmen comic miniature lead figures that he painted. He also had a set of customs in that scale for the other characters that weren’t included in the set. I can’t wait to see who is included in this set of 25 Heroclix!
WIZKIDS/NECA ANNOUNCES WATCHMEN HEROCLIX
WizKids/NECA, the leader in collectible miniature gaming today announced the Watchmen HeroClix Collector’s Boxed Set and Dr. Manhattan Colossal Figure for the HeroClix game, through a license agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Comics. Watchmen HeroClix brings the characters of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Watchmen film to gamers’ tabletops summer 2010.
The Watchmen Collector’s Boxed Set includes 25 highly detailed, 3D miniatures including Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, Nite Owl and Silk Spectre. The Collector’s Boxed Set, which includes a complete set of Watchmen HeroClix figures, comes in deluxe, display-quality packaging. The Watchmen HeroClix Dr. Manhattan Colossal Figure is built to movie-accurate scale and stands over 14 inches tall. “This continues our long and valued relationship with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Comics, and we look forward to another successful collaboration,” states Joel Weinshanker, president of NECA.
HeroClix pioneered the collectible miniature category and HeroClix has been the leading collectible game in the comic genre due to its innovative game platform and deep collection of characters.

Wonder Woman as a Star Sapphire is the one deputy appointment from Blackest Night that I found tough to swallow. I haven’t read a lot of her books, but my notion of Amazon is that of a warrior woman. Still, it was interesting that her Blackest Night tie-in revealed that her unrequited love interest is… Batman?

The final DC HeroClix Blackest Night preview is the most powerful one of them all!
Wonder Woman

Though Wonder Woman has proven herself a hero time and again in battle, the message she always seeks to spread in the mortal world is one of peace, equality, and love. During the Blackest Night, Wonder Woman’s earlier death and resurrection by the Greek gods opened her to the influence of Nekron and the Black Lanterns – but her immense love for the planet Earth and all its people allowed her to be saved by accepting a violet power ring and joining the Star Sapphires.

The Blackest Night Starter Kit reveals return, with the Atom in his Blue Lantern deputy tribal outfit. This is probably my least favorite of the deputy costumes, but the translucent effects look pretty spectacular.
Compassion
The search for Ray Palmer is over. He’s in the DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game!
The Atom

A stalwart member of the Justice League, Ray Palmer’s life was torn apart when he discovered that his love Jean Loring was a murderer. Even after taking a pilgrimage into the multiverse in search of a new purpose, the Atom found he still felt empathy for Loring and all those who had brought evil upon the innocent. In the rise of the Blackest Night, the Atom’s rare compassion allowed him to join the Indigo Tribe and wield the power of their light.

The HeroClix team skipped the Blackest Night Starter Kit update today, but they did post a huge update for The Brave and the Bold. These figures, which will be available in April, look to be traditionally sculpted. They really highlight the differences in detail from a digitally sculpted figure, like Blackest Night.

The HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Kit reveals continue with Scarecrow as a deputy of the Sinestro Corps. The detail on the new digital sculpts continues to impress.
Fear
Paging Dr. Crane. Paging Dr. Crane. Please report to the DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game.
SCARECROW

Though his fear toxins gave him the ability to instill fear in nearly everyone, long exposure to the chemicals made the Scarecrow himself unable to feel terror–except when he was pursued by Batman. In the wake of the Dark Knight’s death, the Scarecrow was on the brink of despair–until in the Blackest Night the Scarecrow found a new purpose when he was given a yellow power ring and a place in the Sinestro Corps!

The Blackest Night Starter Kit reveals continue with Lex Luthor in his Orange Lantern power suit. MINE!

DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game Lex Luthor redefines “power suit.”
LEX LUTHOR
Since childhood, Lex Luthor refused to let anything stand between him and what he desired. Though born to wealth and status, Luthor wanted always wanted more, building a path to power paved with suspicions, accusations, and corpses. In the Blackest Night, Luthor refused to aid past allies and strived only to save himself and what belonged to him–proving himself the perfect candidate for a greed-fueled orange power ring!

A couple of weeks ago I saw some Marvel Heroclix at Toys R Us – these were the first Heroclix toys I’ve seen at retail since NECA acquired WizKids and the Heroclix licenses, and it was good to see some new stuff. But the announcement of a Blackest Night Starter Kit promises some great things to come. They’ll be announcing figures all week, and the reveal of Mera as a Red Lantern is sure to generate some rage in the collector community.
I’m not a collector of these, but I do appreciate the level of detail that NECA is achieving with these now – this starter kit will feature figures sculpted digitally, with great results.
Rage
DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game previews continue with Mera!
Queen of Atlantis and wife to Aquaman, Mera rallied her people in the wake of a planetwide crisis and became the leader of a rebel army determined to take vengeance for the destruction of Atlantis and the death of Aquaman. After the battle was won, she agreed to have the body of Aquaman moved to Atlantis…only to find he had risen from the grave as a Black Lantern. The desecration of the man she loved ignited a new fury in Mera, leading her to the front lines of the battle against the Black Lanterns and the Blackest Night…and earning her a place in the rage-powered Red Lantern Corps!
