I’ve just got an excerpt from WizKid’s preview of two of the figures from the upcoming Heroclix Web of Spider-Man set that was announced back in late April – Carnage and Cardiac. But you should really check out the full article, especially if you’re interested in the product planning that goes into producing a set of figures like this.
Today, I have two sneak peaks of figs for you to look at, one from each category. First up, I have a “need.” If you’re going to do a Spider-Man set, you got to have representatives on the Symbiote front. Fans have been bugging (okay, asking) me for a new Carnage since I began working on Clix years ago. Web of Spider-Man includes a powerhouse version of Cletus Kasady that is sure to guarantee “maximum carnage.” Equipped with a vicious Special “Symbiote Blade,” Carnage is a worthy adversary. Next up on my preview board is another fan-demanded piece that conveniently happens to be from the Spider-verse.
Wow, that sculpt is a real shocker! All bad puns aside, what a breath-taking sculpt and paint for this awesome frie-nemy of Spider-Man. While Carnage is a top-line Spider enemy with a couple of major cross-over stories under his belt, Cardiac has a slightly longer and more nuanced relationship with our favorite webhead. He’s a perfect example of the supporting cast that makes Spider-Man’s world so rich and interesting. I can’t wait to show you more figs from the set, and in my next article, we’ll get into one of the meaty mechanics that makes Web truly innovative.

With the Blackest Night Heroclix, NECA and WizKids started using digital sculpts to great effect – see their announcements for Mera and Hal Jordan, Lex Luthor, Scarecrow, the Atom, and Wonder Woman.
Now for Brightest Day, they’re following these up with a new seven-figure pack, including Aquaman and Osiris. For this scale, I think these show a lot of detail.
AFTER BLACKEST NIGHT COMES BRIGHTEST DAY! AQUAMAN & OSIRIS

The DC HeroClix Brightest Day Action Pack, available October 2010, is the follow-up product to the highly acclaimed DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game. Tying in with DC Comics hit Brightest Day year-long series, the DC HeroClix Brightest Day Action Pack includes seven highly detailed HeroClix 3D figures ripped directly from the pages of the Brightest Day comic, plus an all-new, double-sided HeroClix map.

Two things are interesting to me about the announcement of Star Trek HeroClix. First, they talk about a digital component – I am not quite sure what that means, but if it means an online aspect to the game, that’d be pretty cool.
The second is something not stated in the release, but definitely something to watch for – if the line takes off, I’m wondering if we’ll get collosal game pieces for the Enterprise and other ships, like the Romulan Warbird or the Klingon Bird of Prey.

It’s nice to see Jonah Hex finally getting his due. Here’s some pics of upcoming Hex Heroclix (that’s got a nice ring to it), expected in August, to accompany the movie. Jonah Hex opens in a couple of weeks, on June 18.
The rumors are true! Megan Fox Jonah Hex is finally coming to the HeroClix with the DC HeroClix Jonah Hex Battle Pack. The movie themed Battle Pack contains three brand new, figures: Jonah Hex, Lilah, and Turnbull! The 3 fig Battle Pack is 100% HeroClix compatible and will be available mid-August. Check your local game or comic store this fall.
BTW – These are actual production pieces (off the line). I think they are some of the best eyes we’ve done to date. Let me know what you think.

Looks like with the Web of Spider-Man HeroClix series, you’ll get the chance to pick up a First Appearance Spider-Man HeroClix as some kind of mail-in promotion. I might have to pick up a HeroClix Deadpool and make a Marvel Legends Icons-sized Rhino to go with him.

I haven’t dipped my toes into HeroClix, but keep getting tempted when I think about some of the giant figures I have. My DC Universe Classics Giganta could use some Heroclix to beat up on. Bats and Catwoman here are a special offer figure. Since they’ll be limited in quantity, you’ll want to secure yours soon after the offer goes live at 1PM EST today.
Seeking Redemption
With The Brave and The Bold release right around the corner, I wanted to let you know how we are going to handle the mail away redemption for the Batman and Catwoman brick figure.
Tomorrow at about 1:00 pm EST well kick live www.wizkidsgames.com/buyitbythebrick and you’ll find the forms you’ll need to complete the redemption process.
The process is very similar to previous redemptions except for the following:
- The redemption form will be hosted on our website
- We’ve made the redemption form an editable PDF. No more messy handwriting!
- All redemption forms & payments will be mailed to Alliance games in Fort Wayne, Indiana U.S.A. (keep reading)
- European redemptions will be shipped from a UK distribution center
- All other territories will be shipped out of the US distribution center
- International payment options will be honored here in the U.S.
In order to ensure that international redemptions are on a level playing field with domestic orders, we’ll reserve a percentage of the brick figures for international redemptions only. We’ll inventory balance as necessary and make sure all territories are treated in a fair manner.
In the event that we run out of numbered brick figures before the program expiration (July 16, 2010), we’ll announce the sell out and make a, time limited, last call for The Brave and The Bold redemptions. All redemptions gathered during the “last call period” will be processed and we’ll reprint unnumbered versions of the Brick figures.

While I didn’t speak to anyone at the NECA booth (everyone looked very busy), I did take some pictures of their action figures in HeroClix, Player Select video games, and movie license categories, excluding Harry Potter and Twilight. Sorry, fans of those two franchises – I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

This is a very cool announcement. A very long time ago, my wife’s father had a set of Watchmen comic miniature lead figures that he painted. He also had a set of customs in that scale for the other characters that weren’t included in the set. I can’t wait to see who is included in this set of 25 Heroclix!

Wonder Woman as a Star Sapphire is the one deputy appointment from Blackest Night that I found tough to swallow. I haven’t read a lot of her books, but my notion of Amazon is that of a warrior woman. Still, it was interesting that her Blackest Night tie-in revealed that her unrequited love interest is… Batman?

The final DC HeroClix Blackest Night preview is the most powerful one of them all!
Wonder Woman

Though Wonder Woman has proven herself a hero time and again in battle, the message she always seeks to spread in the mortal world is one of peace, equality, and love. During the Blackest Night, Wonder Woman’s earlier death and resurrection by the Greek gods opened her to the influence of Nekron and the Black Lanterns – but her immense love for the planet Earth and all its people allowed her to be saved by accepting a violet power ring and joining the Star Sapphires.
The DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game will be in comic and hobby stores on May 12, 2010. The Starter Game includes everything you need to play HeroClix: seven HeroClix figures, the 2010 HeroClix Rulebook, a map (The Oan Sciencells) and more–reserve your copy at your local retailer!
