STGCC 2015: Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and More – by Jedd

STGCC 2015 booth pics by Jedd

Our good friend Jedd was at the Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention this past weekend, and sent us this update.

I just got done with STGCC 2015! I’ve attached some booth photos, as with every year, Hot Toys has some impressive dioramas and displays up, with more of a Star Wars bent this year due to the imminent release of The Force Awakens. We also had a giant life-sized Hulk vs. Hulkbuster statue. The photos of Marvel statues (Elektra, Daredevil, Iron Man, Black Bolt) are from XM Collectibles. I’m not really sure who made the Poison Ivy statue prototype but I thought it was pretty enough to include. Then there are the actually levitating DeLorean and hoverboard models from KidLogic.

The local Star Wars collecting community did up a few dioramas, including the LEGO Simpsons family watching a performance of Jizz (yes, we’ve all heard the jokes) by the Bith musicians at Mos Eisley Cantina, and Hasbro Black Series figures lining up to get some satay from street food vendor Jabba the Hutt.

Here are links to my annual Mega Picture Posts:

We’ll have more from Jedd soon, as he was able to interview toy designer Jason Freeny, famous for his anatomical cross-section toy sculptures. Stay tuned!

Hot Toys Announces Nick Fury from Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Hot Toys Captain America The Winter Soldier Nick Fury 01

Ever since he made his cameo appearance in the post-credit scene in the first Iron Man movie, I’d been wondering if we’d ever get to see what’s underneath Nick Fury’s eye patch. And after appearing in another four movies (Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers) and the Agents of SHIELD TV show, we finally did, at the climax of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. How many eye-related puns did we have to endure in the process?

The eye reveal must have motivated Hot Toys to release a new Nick Fury. The first came a few years back as part of the Hot Toys Avengers line-up. I skipped it back then, and while I think the likeness to Samuel L. Jackson is improved, I’m not sure I’ll pull the trigger here either. The Avengers Fury came with a pistol, radio, rocket launcher, and the briefcase that housed the Tessaract. In comparison, the Winter Soldier Fury comes with a pistol, cell phone, arm sling, and an encrypted thumb drive to move the plot forward. Meanwhile, the price has crept up. I’ll have to keep an eye on this one. (Groan.)

You can pre-order the Hot Toys Captain America TWS Nick Fury at Sideshow Collectibles.

Hot Toys Announces Iron Man 3 Pepper Potts and Mark IX Sets

Hot Toys Iron Man 3 Pepper Potts and Mark IX

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts has been a key supporting character in the three Iron Man and the first of the Avengers movies, so I’m sure many fans have been waiting for her to get a Hot Toys figure. You will be able to get her individually, and she’ll come with a very cool accessory – an interchangeable arm from the Iron Man Mark IX, so you can recreate a pivotal scene in the movie.

You will also be able to get her in a set with a full Iron Man Mark IX armor. AFAIK, this armor appeared only during the House Party Protocol, and solely to donate its arm to Pepper. Why would you want the set, then? Because it will come with two even cooler accessories – a Pepper Potts headsculpt in the Mark 42 helmet (that you can put on your Hot Toys Mark 42 armor) and a Mark VII helmet with LED light up features (exclusive to the Sideshow release of the 2-pack). Way to get us to buy yet another Iron Man, Hot Toys! 😀

As always, you can pre-order from Sideshow Collectibles: Solo – Pepper Potts Marvel Sixth Scale Figure | Exclusive 2-pack – Pepper Potts and Mark IX Marvel Sixth Scale Figure Set

Hot Toys Announces Avengers: Age of Ultron Maria Hill

Hot Toys Avengers Maria Hill 01

Avengers fans have been waiting for SHIELD Agent Maria Hill for a while now. I think when Hot Toys made Nick Fury and then Agent Coulson, it was clear that they could go wide and deep in the franchise. Now that they’ve announced Maria Hill, I believe that leaves only Quicksilver as the sole remaining main character from the Avengers ensemble that’s left to do. And if you want to go even wider and deeper, there’s still Dr. Erik Selvig available.

Maria Hill is a “Toy Fair” exclusive – in Hot Toys parlance, that means that she’s available only at various toy shows this summer. We first saw the Hot Toys Maria Hill at SDCC – while her expression is a bit stoic, I think it’s a pretty good likeness for Cobie Smulders. But since they’re the official distributor of Hot Toys in the United States, you can pre-order the Marvel Maria Hill Sixth Scale Figure from Sideshow Collectibles. Happy shopping!

Hot Toys Announces Marvel’s Ant-Man

Hot Toys Ant-Man 01

Marvel’s Ant-Man is in theaters today (get tickets to Ant-Man on Fandango) and Hot Toys is ready with its 1/6 scale Ant-Man figure. He comes with a helmeted head sculpt with goggles that can light up when it’s in the closed position. The helmet’s visor can flip up to reveal Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. No pics yet of the Paul Rudd head sculpt – I’m guessing there’s more work to be done on it, or it still has to go through approval (or both). Ant-Man also comes with a few accessories that are a mystery to me, at least until I see the movie, as well as a tiny Ant-Man that is just over an inch tall.

I got to see the Ant-Man prototype first hand at SDCC, and he looks great! Hot Toys had their Yellowjacket prototype there too, but he has still to be officially announced. You can pre-order the Marvel Ant-Man Sixth Scale Figure at Sideshow Collectibles. Excelsior!
