Marvel Select Cyclops Base Prototype Pic

Usually, when someone engages in gratuitous self-promotion, like describing their own custom action figure as “AWESOME L@@K” in their eBay auction title, I take it with a big grain of salt.  But this prototype picture of the base that will come with the Marvel Select Cyclops really is cool.  I had nitpicks about how Cyclops looks, but the idea of interlocking bases that make up a Danger Room is pretty damn compelling – and I don’t even collect the regular-sized Marvel Select figures.

OK, now THIS is COOL

One of the more appealing features of the Marvel Select line has been the elaborate bases that come with the figures. Lately I’ve had to scale back on that due to the extra details (and in some cases, raw size) of some figures, and it has broken my heart (or whatever I have that passes for a heart). Well, now we have come back to where we began. In the true spirit of the line, I present to you the Danger Room base that will come with Cyclops. This thing looks awesome. And, if you look at the sides of the walls and floor you will see that there are grooves just in case we want to do more X-Men (cough, Colossus, cough) with other Danger Room sections. HUGE props to Bill Mancuso for this one. I said I wanted a Danger Room base (actually, I had a different plan originally, but we won’t talk about that – ever) and he took the concept and ran with it. Now all I want to do is focus on building the complete Danger Room (but y’all will have to wait because I can’t do all X-Men all the time). Enjoy…

Border Patrol: All Deadpool Edition

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figure that you won’t want to let slip by!

Three ongoing monthly comics, a movie starring Ryan Reynolds in development, and both Marvel Legends and Marvel Select figures coming up – and these three customs being auctioned simultaneously – I guess Deadpool has achieved Wolverine status!

Marvel Legends X-Men Deadpool – Daniel Way fans (I’m not one of them) will like this version of Deadpool from the latest arc in the main Deadpool monthly and the X-Force Annual – I found the whole concept stupid but think the custom captures the costume pretty well – ends Dec 21, 2009 18:10:23 PST

Marvel Legends Martial Arts Masters – Custom Iron Fist, Steel Phoenix, and Shang Chi

Marvel Legends Martial Arts Masters - Iron Fist, Steel Phoenix, and Shang Chi

A week ago I posted my Earth 2 Superman, Batman, Hawkman, and Robin customs, which were part of a group entry for the DC Universe Classics Justice Society of America in CustomCon 24.  These three Marvel Legends customs were a solo entry called Marvel Legends Martial Arts Masters.

I’m going to return to my traditional style write-up of talking about the individual customs, as there’s a bit of history and a little more complexity in how they were created.  As a group, the interesting thing is how much time elapsed between finishing the customs and when I actually published them at CC24.  It’s different for each figure.  Shang Chi was essentially finished a year back or more.  Iron Fist was the same, but I was adding some tweaks in the weeks leading up to CustomCon.  And Steel Phoenix was finished the day he got posted, and in a rush, too.

I honestly thought about canning the entry when I put up Rust This World’s entry for Immortal Iron Fist and the Immortal Weapons, but I had been sitting on finished customs for Iron Fist and Shang Chi for so long that I just went for it.

Marvel Select Deadpool Painted Prototype Pic

As a Marvel Legends collector, I’m one of the people who wish that DST would stick to larger figures in Marvel Select who would complement my collection.  But I do recognize that Marvel Select collectors need love too – and I like this Deadpool more now that I’ve seen it with paint.  Ball-jointed hips and double-knees help too, and I wonder if those are elbros (ball-jointed elbows a la Hasbro) too.

Deadpool gets a new coat – of paint

Yeah, it’s getting late and the jokes are getting cornier – what can I say? To make up for it, I’ll let you see the approved paint deco for the Marvel Select Deadpool figure. I don’t have any pictures handy for the weapons or the unmasked head, but take my word for it when I say they complete the figure perfectly.
