Super Alloy 1/4 Scale War Machine Mark 2 (Exclusive Edition) Available for Pre-Order

Play Imaginative Super Alloy Quarter Scale War Machine 1

The quarter scale Super Alloy War Machine Mark II is available for pre-order from YesAnime – they are the US distributor for Play Imaginative. For an armor that was cut out from Iron Man 3 (it had been planned for in an early draft of the movie), it sure has generated a lot of action figures. In addition to Play Imaginative’s War Marchines in 1/6 and 1/12, we’ve also seen upcoming figures of War Machine from Hasbro, Diamond Select Toys, and Hot Toys.

The price tag for this figure is $609.99, which puts it way out of my range, but I’m really interested in what Play Imaginative can achieve in this scale. It’s got over 50 points of articulation, LED lights (with a remote control for them), and even a microfiber cleaning cloth to wipe off fingerprints off of the over 80% of diecast parts. The exclusive edition comes with an alternate head featuring Don Cheadle’s likeness. Impressive.

Play Imaginative to Highlight New 1/12 Super Alloy Iron Man Hammer Drones and More at STGCC

Play Imaginative at STFCC 2013 Play Imaginative at STFCC 2013 - Purchase Play Imaginative at STFCC 2013 - Pre-Order

The Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention is this weekend, August 31 – September 1, and Play Imaginative will be on site with its Super Alloy line of diecast figures that span both DC and Marvel. On the DC front, they’ll have both Superman and Batman from their New 52 Justice League 1/6 scale lineup for sale. And from Iron Man, they’ll have Iron Patriot and War Machine from Iron Man 3 in 1/6 scale – outside the US they’ve share rights for Iron Man in that scale with Hot Toys.

They’re also taking pre-orders for Green Lantern, some of their 1/4 scale Iron Man figures, and the 1/12 scale Mark 42. But new for this show are the Hammer Drones from Iron Man 2, in 1/12 scale. These will be up for pre-order for 115SGD, which is about $90, and are tagged as “event exclusives.” With all of the other Super Alloy figures, each event exclusive has been available for order with minor changes, so even if you can’t get to Singapore, you’ll probably be able to order the Hammer Drones through YesAnime, the US distributor for Play Imaginative.

Exclusive Marvel Legends Ultron Variant Available with Subscription to Marvel Unlimited Plus

Marvel Unlimited Plus Membership Kit 1 Marvel Unlimited Plus Membership Kit 2

Our good friend Paul wrote in that you can get an exclusive Marvel Legends Ultron variant by subscribing to Marvel’s new Marvel Unlimited Plus membership. Marvel Unlimited Plus expands on the access to Marvel’s digital comics library with discounts on digital comics and on merchandise from MarvelStore.com, and also promises access to special events and promotions related to the various comic conventions.

For action figure fans, Plus comes with a collector’s kit, including the Marvel Legends Ultron, a variant copy of Age of Ultron #10,  and a personalized letter and membership card, all in a collectible Age of Ultron comics box. From the pictures it looks like Ultron has a more metallic paint deco than the version that came in Iron Man Legends wave 2, and also has a bright blue color in his mouth consistent with the Age of Ultron look.

Marvel Unlimited Plus costs $99, which is a $30 upsell over the regular Unlimited subscription, if purchased annually. If you subscribe monthly, a regular Unlimited sub would cost you about $120.

Marvel Venom and Wolverine Designer Vinyl Figures by Graphic Artist Frank Kozik

You may remember a few years back, when Hasbro introduced its Marvel Mighty Muggs – this was their attempt to capture some of the high margin designer vinyl market with lower cost licensed figures. The line met with marginal success – Muggs still exist but have gone from Mighty to Mini to Micro.

Marvel is now trying it from another angle – with licensed designer vinyl figures from popular artists. These Venom and Wolverine figures are from graphic artist Frank Kozik – mashups with his Smorkin Labbit – a cartoon character that has been immortalized in a line of vinyl figures. The Marvel Labbit versions of Venom and Wolverine are available at kidrobot, alongside Marvel Munnys of the most popular Marvel characters.

If the $49.99 price tag puts you off these 7-inch Labbits, word is there will be a smaller, blind-boxed line coming soon for $9.99 each. We’ll let you know when we know more.
