Sector1014 returns with a guest review of the SDCC 2010 Mez-Itz 2-Pack featuring Batman and the Joker. Previously, he highlighted the Funko Force 2 DC Universe vinyl figures, which we had missed at the show completely. And a while back, he wrote a great primer on the off-the-wall pick of Kamandi from DC Universe Classics wave 14. What do you think, should we ask him to be a regular here already?

Ron has been following all the news about Mezco’s new DC line here on AFP since it was announced, and SDCC 2010 brought us our first batch of figs and a look at where the line is going. First out of the gate for the DC 6″ Mez-Itz is the con/web exclusive Batman/Joker two-pack. Both are in classic comic book designs, with Batman displayed in his blue/grey-with-yellow-oval-logo version, and the Joker wearing his trenchcoat (with hat, not pictured above).

So we’ve been back from Comic-Con for a week, and boy do we have tons of pics to share with you all! To help you guys and gals navigate our galleries, we’ve prepared a summary with links to make browsing easier! Here we go!
First off, you can find the San Diego Comic-Con gallery under Events in our Galleries section. Click on 2010 San Diego Comic-Con and you’ll see all the different galleries for each company and a couple of non-toy galleries too.

Mezco was one of my most anticipated stops I had to make on Preview Night at San Diego Comic-Con, primarily for their new line-up of DC Universe Mez-Itz. I’m guessing that a lot of AFP readers aren’t into urban vinyl figures, but I challenge you to look upon these works and rejoice!

While these will see broad release through Diamond and specialty stores, they’ll likely not hit mass market retailers like Toys R Us – because Mattel has such a lock on DC as the master license holder, Mezco had to carve out a very specific niche to be able to produce these.
I’m glad they did. As I’ve said many times, these are compatible with Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs, but the ball-jointed head takes them a step further in the poses and resulting character these emanate. And the designs are a home run – I must have that Sinestro, now!

Wow, is it that time already? The biggest pop culture event of the year is upon us, and I’m just not ready for it.
Thankfully, the rest of the guys have already covered the bulk of my Most Wanted list, so check out their pre-game shows: Buzzy, Sandman, and Talyn. Here’s some of the upcoming toy lines from my favorite toy companies that somehow didn’t already get mentioned:
DC Universe Mez-Itz (Mezco)

As far as I’m concerned, there’s been a hole in the urban vinyl category shaped like a big “DC” – ever since Hasbro took vinyl and brought it to mass market as Mighty Muggs for its Marvel, Star Wars, GI Joe, and Transformers licenses, I’ve been waiting for DC to follow suit. I thought last year we might get a line from Mattel – they had some protos on display for Masters of the Universe and others that never made it to toy shelves. And DC Direct’s Blammoids made it to comic book stores but just aren’t my cup of tea.
With DC going with Mez-Itz, I think we’ve finally got a chance for DC urban vinyl for mass market. Mez-Itz has a very pleasing form factor that’s scale compatible with Mighty Muggs. And they’ve got those ball-jointed necks, that make them a superior offering. I can’t wait to pick up the Batman / Joker exclusive, and see what else Mezco has planned.

A couple of weeks ago we found DC Universe Mez-Itz listed on the Mezco web store. They just made them available for pre-order. The Batman and Joker are available in a 2-pack for $40 and will ship around San Diego Comic-Con. They’ll also be available for purchase at the Con.
I’m very psyched about these. Mez-Itz are scale-compatible with Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs, and also feature a ball-joint at the neck – you can get some great poses other vinyl figures without that won’t be able to manage.
The Kick-Ass Bundle that includes Mez-Itz and keychains is also available for pre-order.

The Batman & Joker 6inch Mez-Itz two pack, which is a summer exclusive that will be revealed at SDCC, is available for pre-order now at

in July they will also be available at SDCC 2010.

The Green Hornet (and Kato, of course) is more my older brother’s thing than mine – I hadn’t been born yet when it was on the air, and the Batman TV series got a lot more airtime in replays. Although produced by the same team, the Green Hornet played it straight while Batman camped it up – so I’ll have to find out how my brother feels about Seth Rogen in the role.
In any case, the toys are coming. These are the 12-inchers, and I’m not sure if Mezco will also be making ones that fit in with the 7-inch scale that’s prevalent for movie properties.
Green Hornet 1/6 Scale 12inch Figures
Mezco 12inch 1/6th scale figures are based on the characters from the upcoming big budget tent pole film from Sony Pictures. The Green Hornet, due to release January 2011. A classic character of film, television, radio, and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen as the vigilante crime-fighter. The film will be based upon “The Green Hornet” radio series created by George W. Trendle.

The 12 inch figures feature amazing attention to detail, perfectly capturing both the actor’s likenesses as well as the spirit of the characters.
The Green Hornet features 11 points of articulation, as well as an alternate right hand, gas gun, and real cloth coat. Kato features 9 points of articulation, and an alternate right hand with gun.
Both figures are packaged in a collector friendly window box.
The Green hornet and Kato ship in November 2010 and are available for pre-order at http://www.mezcotoyz.com/store/detail.aspx?ID=862

We’re probably jumping the gun, because there’s been no official announcement from them yet, but when Mezco announced they would be making Mez-Itz for the DC Universe, we had to go poking around – especially after they said they’d have an exclusive 2-pack with the Batman and Joker.
Here’s what we found. Awesome! (And stay tuned for official word, coming soon.)

We had previously asked Mattel if the Attitubes they showed at San Diego Comic-Con last year were coming, because we hadn’t been too jazzed with DC Direct’s Blammoids! offerings thus far.

Looks like the urban vinyl license for DC was still up for grabs, and I’m tremendously psyched by this announcement, in which Mezco will producing Mez-Itz for DC Universe characters. Check out my review of the Mez-Itz Comic Hellboy to see why.
Mezco Toyz To Create Mez-Itz Line For DC Comics Universe
New York- Mezco Toyz is proud to announce that is has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Comics, to create Mez-Itz, Mezco’s signature designer vinyl brand. The deal gives Mezco Toyz full access to the massive DC Universe of characters as well as specific movies, including world-famous superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the vast array of villains associated with these iconic heroes.

The first characters to be revealed to the public will be Batman and The Joker.
The Dark Knight and The Clown Prince of Crime will make their debut at San Diego Comic Con in June 2010; the exclusive two pack of 6inch Mez-Itz is based on the classic comic book characters.
“I’ve been a DC fan since I picked up my first comic book many years ago. To have access to the DC Universe and the ability to recreate these iconic heroes and villains as Mez-itz is a dream come true!’ said Mezco President Michael “Mez” Markowitz
Mezco Toyz plans to release several waves of Mez-Itz each year in a variety of sizes. They will announce the next wave of DC characters at San Diego Comic Con.
Mez-Itz, rotocast vinyl collectibles are cool by design. They features five points of articulation, amazing graphics from Mezco’s award winning design team, and are often packaged in a collector friendly window box.

I never finished the Kick-Ass comic, but people keep telling me I should – and the movie is getting some great buzz too. The figures aren’t as articulated as I’d like. Mezco delivered some great figures in their Hellboy movie lines that were highly articulated, so while the sculpts look great, I want more from my super heroes. You can get this set for $30, and it should ship in October.

“Kick-Ass”, the action-adventure movie from Lionsgate and Matthew Vaughn, is a twisted high-octane adventure that redefines the “super hero” genre, based on the popular comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.
Kick-Ass, a.k.a. Dave Lizewski is an average teenager and avid comic-book fan, who decides to become a real-life superhero, Kick-Ass! With no actual super powers, his life is forever changed as he encounters the violent, real-crime world of common thugs, drug lords and underworld mobsters.
Kick-Ass 1/12 scale 6” action figure that captures the essence of “Kick-Ass” armed with two billy-clubs, and wearing signature suit and mask.

Hit-Girl, a.k.a. Mindy Mc Cready is an 11 year-old pig-tailing wearing waif with the fighting skills of a ninja. This little super hero proves she has some real kick- ass skills.
The 1/12 Scale action figure features Hit-Girl in her signature plaid skirt, purple wig and cape. Armed with a pair of butterfly knives, and her double Gitano bladed mindy stick.
Set of 2 includes 1 Kick-Ass/ 1 Hit-Girl.
Ships October 2010.
