Geeze – I’ve been checking the Entertainment Earth website all month for their daily deals, and I almost forgot to check the start of their Black Friday Week 5-Day Sale, which kicked off today. The sale works like this: they’ve got a bunch of items (78 when I checked) that are on sale for the next 5 days, as well as items that are only on sale for that particular day. There’s six additional items up for sale today.

With a sale like this, there’s usually something for everybody. I pulled the trigger on some Square Enix Play Arts Kai figures that I’ve been eyeing for a while. They’ve got Street Fighter, DC variants, Batman: Arkham City, and more – and they’re all 50% off. And EE also has a free shipping for orders over $50. Great sale!

Weekend Toy Run: Square Enix Play Arts Kai Catwoman and Zod On Sale at Entertainment Earth

Whoops – meant to post this earlier today, because Entertainment Earth is offering 40% off selected Play Arts Kai figures from Square Enix. It’s part of their 38 days, 38 deals promotion that’s underway and ending November 26. But each deal ends only lasts a day, so be quick if any of these are on your want list.

I’ve got the Catwoman and paid full price – this is a bargain on an excellent figure. EE also has the Dead Space 3 Isaac Clarke and the Metal Gear Solid 2 Solidus Snake on sale. Happy shopping!

Weekend Toy Run: Square Enix Play Arts Kai Street Fighter on Sale at Amazon

I noticed this weekend that the price on my Amazon pre-order for the Square Enix Play Arts Kai Ken from Super Street Fighter IV dropped down to $59.99. That’s down from the regular $69.99 at which Sakura is still priced. Because of the Amazon price guarantee, I automatically get the lower price. Ken is targeted to come out fighting later this month.

Also noticed that the prices on the earlier waves of the Street Fighters has also dropped, thanks to competition between third party sellers. Not a bad time to pick them up – they’re terrific hand candy and I have really had fun with them.

SDCC 2013: Square Enix Play Arts Kai (Preview Night)

Square Enix Play Arts Kai (1 of 41)

It feels like there’s been a shift in the development of Square Enix’s Play Arts Kai lines. Its roots are in its video game licenses, but this show, most of the new products in the pipeline are in the various DC licenses that they’ve added over the past couple years. From Arkham Asylum / City, they’ve moved into the Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel in force, and they’re continuing to move forward with their DC variants line.

They have two cases that are still covered – if I were a betting man, I’d put my money on Arkham Origins. Any other guesses?

Square Enix Releases Play Arts Kai DC Universe Variant Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern Press Pics

Square Enix Play Arts Kai DC Universe

I had mixed feelings when I saw the variant DC Universe figures from the Square Enix Play Arts Kai line at Toy Fair. Now that Square Enix has released their press pics of the first three figures – Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, my take hasn’t changed. I’m mostly positive on their other DC offerings – the Arkham Asylum / City line has been fantastic, and I will probably be picking up the Dark Knight trilogy figures. The Superman: Man of Steel figures look interesting. But these DC variants will most likely be a cherry picking line for me.

I’m expecting that the articulation on these babies will be just as good as the other figures I’ve picked up, but I’m so-so on the designs. This is the kind of thing I worry about with 3A Toys and their highly-anticipated Marvel line. When you look at iconic characters through the lens of an artist with a distinctive style, there’s a chance that what you see won’t agree with you.
