Don’t Miss the Fwoosh DC Universe Classics March Madness Tourney Final Four

Argh! Blue Beetle took out Batman with a late afternoon surge. And now we’re down to the Final Four participants. Looking at the entire field, there’s a lot of other figures that I think were worthy of making it this far, but there’s the luck of the draw, and there’s no telling who people are actually going to vote for.

I’m pulling for Deathstroke and Kilowog this round. Go vote!

124 down, just three to go! We have reached the Tournament Semifinals (better known to most as the Final Four) and while we say “smell ya later” to Thanagar, Rann, Qward and Korugar the action is about to get even bigger. Good thing for us the next two stops for the tournament are Apokolips and New Genesis where EVERYTHING is bigger and we are set for two match-ups of Fourth World proportions! Before we go, let’s look at the wrap-up of the last round:

  • On Thanagar, Green Arrow soundly dispatched Darkseid 65-35 promising the latter will only play host and not participant on his home planet in the next round.
  • Qward hosted the biggest margin of victory of the round as Deathstroke barely broke a sweat againt Metamorpho 75-25. Rex had a great run, but 90% brain utilization just proved too much for him.
  • Rann, on the other hand, was the scene of the closest match-up of the tournament thus far as the Blue Beetle took down Batman to the tune of 51-49: it was an actual margin of victory of near single digits. Finally, we can put it to rest once and for all: Blue Beetle > Batman!
  • Not to be outdone, Korugar produced the SECOND closest round of the tournament as Kilowog barely held off a late-surging Joker 51-49. The big K’s victory gap was only two votes wider than Ted’s. Kilowog finally faced a challenge in the voting and he is now surely battle tested.

Now it is your responsibility to whittle the field down to the final two, so vote wisely. Who do you think are the best two figures of the DC Universe lines? Vote now, and remember: voting for this round ends on April 4th.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

  • Finals: April 5-6
  • Wrap up on April 7th

See you on Oa!

Don’t Miss the Fwoosh DC Universe Classics March Madness Tourney Quarterfinals

The exits of Aquaman and Black Adam last round were a little surprising to me, and seeing the last of Hawkman in an extremely closs to the Joker might be the biggest moment of the tournament so far. Each of the matchups this round is going to be awesome, but I’m most interested in Batman vs. Blue Beetle – just because I know VeeBee wants Blue Beetle to win it all, and this may be the first chance to knock him out of the tournament!

Now we have come to it – we have the winners of each of our original regions and they are set to go off-planet it battle it out in the Tournament Quarterfinals! That’s right, Earth is just not big enough to house this tournament any longer so Thanagar, Qward, Rann and Korugar now play hosts to the final eight competitors. There were some close calls and some upsets in the regional finals! Let’s take a look at the results:

  • Green Arrow is now an official ghostbuster with a huge 67 to 33 win over Gentleman Ghost.
  • Darkseid pulled off a very surprising, not to mention close, 52 to 48 win over Aquaman.
  • Metamorpho just barely handled Black Adam with a 54 to 46 victory.
  • Deathstroke showed Wonder Woman who wears the pants with a huge 61 to 39 win.
  • Batman is still the boss, putting Robin in his place with a 66 to 34 victory.
  • Blue Beetle bested the Spectre with a too close for comfort win of 58 to 42.
  • The Joker just barely claims a victory over the mighty Hawkman with a score of 51 to 49. WOW!
  • Kilowog made a poozer out of Kalibak with a huge win of 75 to 25.

It is a veritable pantheon of DC Universe action figure powerhouses! But now it is time for you make your tough choices, cut the field in half and send those that are destined to advance off to Apokolips and New Genesis!

Voting for this bracket ends on April 2nd, so make your picks now!

Don’t Miss the Fwoosh DC Universe Classics March Madness Tourney Regional Semifinals

The tourney keeps rolling on, and there’s some more intriguing matchups this round. In Gotham, we have Green Arrow vs. Black Canary. And in Ivy Town, the two matchups look like they’re leading to a Batman vs. Robin matchup in the Regional Finals!

The biggest names in the DCU just keep on keeping on! After a second round filled with pummelings and very curious upsets, the favorites are starting to pull away and some favorite characters (rather than figures) have found their way into the round of 32. This is the lead-in to the matches that will decide the best from each region, so choose wisely.

The routine is the same as before, we will trudge on through the same regions and we have separate voting sites for each.

Don’t Miss the Fwoosh DC Universe Classics March Madness Tourney Round 2

It’s Round 2! Vote for your favorite DC Universe Classics figures and help determine who comes out on top of the first Fwoosh DC Universe Classics March Madness tournament! The toughest choice for me was Hawkman vs. Deadshot, and I’m rooting for Wildcat over Wonder Woman.

The Madness continues after a first round filled with predictables, cinderellas, blow-outs close calls and everything in between. It is now time to to turn your attention to those that survived, and the match-ups are becoming more intense. 128 figures entered and we have cut the field in half, but there is still a long way to go until we crown the King (or Queen) of DCUC!

Superman Batman Public Enemies Quick Pics

Superman Batman Public Enemies (1200x1200).jpg

We’ve had more in-depth reviews of Superman Batman Public Enemies (see the review from Buzzy Fret and a guest review from Studmuffin), but since I recently completed the Brimstone Build-A-Figure that was split over two waves of these figures, I wanted to take a few more pics. Overall, I think this series works well enough as a standalone line. If you’re a fan of animated-styled figures and the ongoing McGuinness lines from DC Direct, you may find these complementary.

… or more affectionately titled; the G.D. Batman.

First off I have to give Ron props. I loved his CustomCon 24 DC Universe Classics Earth 2 Customs and they (especially the Robin and Batman) were a big part of the inspiration for making this G.D. Batman. If you haven’t seen them, definitely check ‘em out.

but a lot less Superman…

Hate to stick another thorn in Ron’s jealous hide but a week of daily visits to Target here in Gainesville, FL has paid off this morning! I passed on the metallic Superman redux as I had already gotten the Brimstone part that came with him from fellow NE FL Fwoosher Superdoug and I just don’t need another Superman…
