Hasbro has a long history of putting gimmicks into Transformers, from Mini-cons to Powerlink to Cyber Keys. The next generation of gimmick-driven Transformers are the Power-Core Combiners. In this review I’ll take a look at Skyburst and the Aerialbots.

Hasbro has shared a ton of pictures (101 of them!) of upcoming products across its boys toys lines – GI Joe, Marvel, Star Wars, and Transformers were all represented this time around. We’ll start with GI Joe – they only included one shot versus the bunch they included in the August press pics, but Sandman is liking the new line. He picked up Beachhead and the Alley Viper first, and then Firefly a few days later.

Canonball writes in about the Cybertronian Conference, a regional Transformers event held each year in Tacoma, Washington. All photos provided courtesy of TFcollector1984. You can read more from Canonball at Canonball’s Run. Thanks, guys!
A whole lot of Transformers for sale
I’ve been to a lot of conventions in my day, but I’ve never been to one devoted to a single, specific pocket of fandom before. The Cybertronain Conference (or CybCon, as it’s known) is a convention devoted to the love of Transformers and all things Cybertronian that takes place in Tacoma, WA every August. It’s very much a DIY affair organized by Greg Gaub to give those Pacific Northwesterners who aren’t able to make the trek to larger events like BotCon or San Diego Comic-Con a place to meet, chat, buy, sell, and bond over anything and everything involving Transformers, and I have to say – it was pretty cool.

Hasbro has a history of releasing Masterpiece figures from Japan in the United States and making alterations to the figures that turn out to be a detriment to the figure. However, with the Transformers Masterpiece Grimlock, this time they got it right.

The Fwoosh’s canonball sent us these pics of the Hasbro Transformers Animated Rodimus Minor and Ironhide.
Transformers Animated Ironhide and Rodimus Minor
The Transformers Animated line, for all intents and purposes, ended several months ago. However, thankfully for for fans of the cartoon and the toy line, Toys R Us has kept the line going with several exclusive deluxe class figures, Rodimus Minor and Ironhide being the most recent releases. Both are hotly anticipated and must-haves to finish off the collection and could very well be the final offerings in the line.

I was very sad to hear about the passing of Eddie Wires earlier this week. The staff of the Fwoosh put together a small article with our remembrances of Eddie. Some of us had just seen him a few weeks back, during San Diego Comic-Con. Eddie – we’ll miss you.
If you’re an action figure fan, chances are you’ve got a toy on your shelf that Eddie Wires helped create. Some of you probably have shelves full of toys Eddie had a hand in. After Eddie was done painting a prototype, that figure was the best it would ever look and the best it would ever be. That’s because no factory production process could ever hope to match what he created by hand.
I wasn’t lucky enough to spend a lot of time with Eddie, but it seemed to me that he had the same effect on the people around him as he did on the toys he created – life was better when he was there. Always friendly, always smiling, and it was certainly infectious.

If you look through his body of work (see his online portfolio or his Facebook albums), like I do from time to time, you’ll be reminded of what might have been in the world of toys. With him gone, I’ll ask myself that every time I see a painted prototype, and every time I’m outside on the balcony at Jolt’n Joes.

The five LoSH figures gracing the awesome cover were on display at San Diego Comic-Con, but I’m still looking forward to hearing more from Toy Guru and Bill Benecke.

Hasbro held its Transformers panel on Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con. After being told that we could not videotape proceedings by a very dedicated SDCC volunteer, Sandman captured the images below for you of the product portion of the presentation.
