It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  No, not the winter holidays – it’s Winter CustomCon, the 24th installment and the third hosted by

What is CustomCon?

CustomCon is a special presentation of new custom toy creations by customizers around the globe. Eight years in the running, it’s still going strong. Inspired by the presentations of new product by legitimate manufacturers at Toy Fair and other trade shows, CustomCon is a “fake” convention, whereby customizers present their latest creations and recipes as if unveiling a new line of real toys to retailers. It’s always a lot of fun, for both the viewers and the participants.

This special event is running all week, so I’ll try to pick out some of the custom entries that I found really compelling.  Here’s three from day one.

You may remember GrownNerd’s entry in CustomCon 22, Savage Land Face-Off Zabu & Ultra-raptor.  If you haven’t seen that, you’ve got to check it out.  What you may not know is that the Zabu in that CustomCon entry is the *second* Zabu he made.  When he posted the recipe for Zabu on his customs thread at, he revealed that he wasn’t happy with the first.  I suggested that I take the first one off his hands because it was such a piece of crap, and shortly thereafter, I had this beauty in my hands.  Never underestimate the power of sarcasm coupled with suggestion!

Custom Con 23 – August 10 – 14

Custom Con 23 is on this week, hosted graciously by Joe Acevedo after the Fwoosh requested a switch to the winter slot.  Since we switched to three Custom Cons a year, the summer slot seems to be the lightest, but there’s still a bunch of great entries to look at.

Here’s some of my favorites so far.
