Fantastic Exclusive Gothitropolis Scarabus Paint Masters

Wow – these look great! Wonder how they’re going to work with the interchangeable face plates.

They’re marching off to war! Actually these are shots of all of the Scarabus variant paint-masters waiting nice and patiently to be boxed up and sent over to the factories.

Although we’re going to ask to get these back, often the paint-masters are damaged beyond repair or even destroyed during production. Our fingers are crossed that this doesn’t happen to ours and we’ve been pretty fortunate with it in the past, but even if they do make it back to us intact there’s a good chance that they’ll have a lot of wear and tear, and they’ll need to be touched up and repaired again before they’ll be shown to the public again. Which, if everything goes as planned might be in February…

But more on that at another time.

Fantastic Exclusive Gothitropolis Scarabus Test Shots

This is some cool stuff. I’m glad the Four Horsemen have focused on making sure the joints are sturdy – since these sound like they’ll be pretty hefty, I hope they won’t be plagued by loose joints like the elephants were.

You’re getting a double dose of Scary-Shot today to be thankful for!

The first image is one that’s very similar to one you’ve seen before. It’s an image of one of the Scarabus test shots we got in at the studio recently. But there are a couple of things to take note of on this test shot. Most specifically, some of the articulation points.

Not only is every single joint solid, tight and durable feeling, but there are “clicky” detents in most of the joints adding to the figures stability, but most of the joints are better hidden by using an “insert molding” system! Most of the joints will have no visible outer rivet or peg to mess up the exquisite outer detail on Scarabus! The black discs that you see in the photos below have actually been created, and then inserted into the molds for the joints before injecting plastic into those molds, essentially trapping the discs in the joint during production and ensuring a perfect, tight fit.

Not only that, but the entire figure is made from a PVC material! No ABS (except for some accessories and clear parts)! Not only does this make the figure seem more solid and add a bit to it’s heft, but it also allows much more detail from the prototype to be kept in the finished figure with out having to worry as much about drafting and parting lines (a few terms in this paragraph will be in next weeks Four Horsemen Fridays: The FH Glossary).

We can’t wait for these to get into the hands of collectors who will actually play with them, if only to see if these joints loosen up any over time. We’ve been playing with him constantly since he kicked in our front door, and we’ve had no issues with him yet.

In the second photo you finally get confirmation that both the cape/shoulder-pads and the pincers on his back are removable. As well as his head, faceplate, hands and staff-tops. Everything you see in this image will come with every single Scarabus and all of the variants. Plus more! But that’ll have to wait for another Scary-Shot…

Fantastic Exclusive Gothitropolis Scarabus Interchangeable Face Plates

Not really much more to say than: INTERCHANGEABLE FACE-PLATES! Some people speculated, and yep, many of the face-plates are going to be interchangeable amongst the various heads (the goat & ram heads are not).

We just posted what we thought was the complete recap of the Fantastic Gothitropolis Scarabus figures, but there’s more – interchangeable face plates for many of the figures. Very cool – now if the Four Horsemen would reveal the price per figure – I want to see if they’ll be in the range where army building is viable.

Not really much more to say than: INTERCHANGEABLE FACE-PLATES! Some people speculated, and yep, many of the face-plates are going to be interchangeable amongst the various heads (the goat & ram heads are not).

This was something that we didn’t expect when we sent the 2-up prototypes to the factory, and when the test shots came back from the factory like this it sparked an idea in our heads. We think you’re going to like the results. More about that soon.

Below are just a few examples of face-plate interchangeability. Please go to the SCARY-SHOTS thread on the FANtastic Exclusive message boards and let us know what you think!

Fantastic Exclusive Gothitropolis Scarabus Recap

Over the past two weeks, the Four Horsemen have been updating the Four Horsemen website with updates on the long-awaited Fantastic Exclusive from their Gothitropolis line. We’ll recap the lineup of all 10 figures, starting with the main man, Scarabus.

When we talked to the Four Horsemen at San Diego Comic-Con, they were very up front about the what’s taken so long for Scarabus to make it to production. Basically, it’s gotten very expensive to get figures with this level of detail and articulation tooled up. So they focused on other properties like Outer Space Men so they could eventually fund Scarabus.
