Play Imaginative Reveals Super Alloy 1/12 Scale War Machine Mark 2

Play Imaginative Super Alloy 6-Inch War Machine Mk2 1

This is the second of Play Imaginative’s reveals for its 1/12 scale Super Alloy Iron Man figures. It’s the War Machine Mark 2 – the armor that was featured in an early draft of the Iron Man 3 script but didn’t make the final cut. It joins the Mark 42 armor in the line. Presumably, we’ll see a reveal for the Iron Patriot soon.

War Machine is available for pre-order on the YesAnime website for $104.99. And yes, that’s a lot, but keep in mind this is upwards of 70% diecast, with LED lights and some pretty good articulation. I guess it’s $5 cheaper than the Mark 42 because it didn’t get any screen time. The Iron Patriot, which should use the same tooling as this figure, will go for the same price as the Mark 42, $109.99.

Play Imaginative Reveals Super Alloy 1/12 Scale Iron Man Mark 42

Play Imaginative Super Alloy 6-Inch Iron Man Mk42 1

This is the first of Play Imaginative’s reveals for its 1/12 scale Super Alloy Iron Man figures. The Iron Man Mark 42 armor was Tony Stark’s armor for most of Iron Man 3. We’ve got the War Machine Mark 42 reveal coming up in a bit, and know that the Iron Patriot will get revealed soon.

The Mark 42 is available for pre-order on the YesAnime website for $109.99. It’s a steep price for a 6-inch figure, but it’s 70% diecast, has LED lights and some pretty good articulation. The Iron Patriot will also go for this price, and the War Machine Mk 2 will come in at $5 cheaper.

I got my first look at the 1/12 scale diecast Iron Man figures from Play Imaginative’s Super Alloy line at San Diego Comic-Con – but as they were all under plexiglass displays, there was no knowing how these bad boys will be articulated. With these pictures and video of a test shot (the blue pieces are diecast), it looks like they’ll move pretty well.

I’m not that big a fan of the huge knee joints, but it’s something I’ve become accustomed to with Square Enix figures. And they didn’t really show the head moving that much – if Iron Man can’t look up all that much, then a lot of the standard flying poses will look a little odd. Other than that, I am impressed with the articulation setup on these figures.

Play Imaginative Reveals Super Alloy Cyborg and Flash at Taipei Toy Festival

Play Imaginative revealed two DC New 52 diecast Super Alloy figures at the Taipei Toy Festival: Cyborg and Flash. I just saw (more like ogled) the Super Alloy Green Lantern at San Diego Comic-Con, but this shot from Taipei shows him with some of his construct armor pieces on. Brilliant!

I haven’t really been reading the New 52 – is Hawkman on the team? Because I think he’d make a brilliant Super Alloy figure. But I suppose we’re really missing Wonder Woman and Aquaman. I don’t think I’ve seen Martian Manhunter in the New 52, but I could very well be wrong.

SDCC 2013: Play Imaginative Super Alloy (Preview Night)

Play Imaginative Super Alloy Marvel and DC (7 of 12)

Singapore’s Play Imaginative is poised to compete in the United States on a number of fronts with its high-end diecast collectibles. To fit into the crowded Marvel and DC licensed product markets, they’ve had to pick out niche scales that were available. For Marvel, they’ve got Iron Man in the 1/4 and 1/12 scale, while for DC, it’s 1/6. All look great, but for those of us hoping for one company to have Marvel and DC under one roof in compatible scales, we’ll keep waiting.
