AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 7/15/10

Here we go – it’s the last Ask Matty session before SDCC – and I’m afraid we didn’t do all that well getting the guys at Mattel to spill any surprises. Because of the show, there won’t be another Q&A until August 15th. Send in your questions, because I’m doing a lousy job at it!

1) Since this is the last Q&A before San Diego Comic-Con, can you give us some hints about the new figures that you plan to show from each line (without giving too much away, of course)?

Getting info out of Matty is like pulling teeth! (Yeah, I know, that was horrible.)

For MOTUC, much like last year, we’ll be showing items through the first 2011 figures. For GB Classics, we will show  about three to four new figures. For DCUC, we will have at least two waves of six-inch figures as well as some surprises. For JLU, we will show at least the remaining 2010 product, which includes the “skipped over” wave of JLU singles including show accurate Red Tornado and OMAC.

2) Will you be introducing any new lines? If so, what about a teaser or hint?

We’re too close to SDCC at this point. You’ll just need to wait and see.

3) You’ve mentioned some raffles and giveaways. How about giving us a hint about some of them?

All of our raffle info will be posted soon on Mattycollector.com. We can’t reveal the full list until all of the logistics have been worked out.

4) What’s new this year about the sales process at the Mattel booth? A lot of folks complained about the raincheck ticket system from last year – lots of stuff were sold out before these folks got a chance to buy.

Again, our SDCC sale details are still being worked out and we will post this in full on Mattycollector.com soon. We are absolutely reviewing last year’s sale and are aiming to improve the process as much as possible this year. In the end, we still need to work within the logistics of the SDCC show and the regulations they supply for sales.

5) How about the MattyCollector.com sale of SDCC exclusives on 8/2? Will Digital River be conducting anything different to make that buying experience less painful?

We are constantly working to improve the online buying process and are working through a lot of logistics right now on this ongoing quest to make it as perfect as possible.

  1. I hope one of those DC surprises is a Batmobile for the DC Universe Classics line. I think that is the _only_ toy they could produce that would get me excited about the line. Too many frustrating times trying to find specific figures left me unhappy with the entire series.
