It’s time for us to announce the winners of the Marvel Universe Covers Contest, brought to you by the Hasbro Marvel team and the guys who run ActionFigurePics.com and TheFwoosh.com. We had a very tough time picking just three winners, because all the covers entered this year were really great. So we’ll be adding three more prize winners for honorable mentions – but don’t get your hopes up guys, because your prizes will be coming from AFP’s Free Stuff stash.
Without further ado, here are your winners!
Calbretto blew us away with his composition of Robert Kirkman’s first issue of The Irredeemable Ant-Man. Ant-Man is known for his exaggerations, so while we can’t find 23 villains in the cover, we really enjoyed seeing so many Marvel baddies from Hasbro, Toy Biz, and Diamond Select being crushed by Calbretto’s custom Eric O’Grady Ant-Man.
He’ll be receiving a prize pack consisting of all three Hasbro / Marvel Comic Con Exclusives (the 70th Anniversary Invaders 4-pack, the single-carded gray scale Captain America, and the Wolverine Mighty Mugg) plus the new wave of Marvel Legends 2-packs. Congrats!
Raydaimon is a return winner from last year’s contest. We liked that he was able to recreate the entirety of one of the biggest marketing ploys in comics history using only action figures, customs, and photographed elements. We’re not sure that any part of the original covers remain, except for maybe the Marvel Comics logo and the issue information.
His prize pack will consist of all three SDCC exclusives plus wave 5 of Marvel Universe, which, unfortunately, he no longer collects. Oh, cruel twist of fate!
Enforcer is also a return winner from last year. He had so many entries that could have been prize winners, but this was the one we liked best. He was able to combine figures and original cover elements to recreate a dynamic, action-filled cover. And to think he thought he could never win again, after his unsportsmanlike conduct after the results last year. Let’s see if he can be a gracious winner this time around! 😉
He’ll take home the first wave of Secret Wars Comic 2-packs and the SDCC-exclusive Wolverine Mighty Mugg.
And here are our three honorable mentions:
Ninjak, Maximoff, and Raynir’s entries were so liked by the guys judging the covers that we were bummed we only had three prize packs from Hasbro to give away. So AFP will be ponying up some action figures from the Free Stuff stash to send out to each of them.
And there you have it – the winning entries from this year’s Marvel Universe Covers Contest. You can still view all the entries and vote on which cover recreation you think is the best. And if cover recreations are your thing, we also have last year’s entries for your viewing pleasure.
