Hot Toys Avengers Agent Phil Coulson Preview

The Marvel Studios movies have been a powerhouse for Hot Toys. While the movies from the other studios have yielded one or two figures each, between Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and now the Avengers, there’s an army of figures.

Coulson (how cool is it that he comes with his Cap trading cards?) and Maria Hill (not yet immortalized by Hot Toys) were the ones I thought we’d never see. Now I think the last guy to get a figure might be the SHIELD Agent caught playing Galaga.

The Avengers: Agent Phil Coulson is coming soon!

Maxiworks Collectibles Store and ThreeA Toys MGS REX

I am in the Philippines spending time with my parents, and have been suffering a bit from toy withdrawal. But today by chance I happened upon Maxiworks in the Power Plant Mall in Makati, one of the retail locations of Maxicollector Toys & Collectibles. They’re an official distributor of Sideshow Collectibles, Hot Toys, Enterbay, Toynami, Efx Collectibles, Gentle Giant, Funko and more. The store is bursting at the seams with statues, busts including life-sized ones from Marvel and Predators, and tons of 1/6 figures.

Hot Toys Metal Gear Solid Naked Snake Backstage Pics

I don’t remember when Hot Toys announced this figure of MGS 3’s Naked Snake, but it turned out great. Their Facebook page also has an album of pics by fans that are pretty damn awesome: MGS 3: Snake Eater: Naked Snake (Sneaking Suit Ver) Final Product (67 photos)

Reminder: Pre-Order for Masters of the Universe Classics Grayskull (For Production Minimums) Ends Tonight

We’re in the waning hours of the Masters of the Universe Classics Castle Grayskull pre-order, approaching the end of day cut-off to hit the pre-order minimum. I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that Mattel will move forward with Castle Grayskull, even if the pre-order minimum is not hit by the end of today.

Before I get to that, I think there’s a pretty good chance that the last-minute push for the Castle will get us over the top. And that’s the genius of using the decidedly collector-unfriendly sales technique of the thermometer. Some folks worried about hitting the goal will be putting in another order or two. Procrastinators are getting reminded that today’s the last day. And folks are rallying their friends and fellow collectors to support this once in a lifetime collectible.

But even if the target isn’t hit, it will go forward anyways. First, with how close it is now, it’s a matter of time before the minimum does get hit. There’s still a month and a half to pick up stragglers. Second, Mattel would get to be the good guy here. I can see them saying “Sure, we didn’t hit the minimum, but we wanted to do something for the Masters collectors out there!” And finally, the Mattel team has too much invested, and they sure as heck want the Castle for their own collections.

So rest assured, tomorrow the pre-order page will still be there, and we’ll get the happy announcement from Toy Guru that we’re getting Castle Grayskull made, whether we made the minimum or not. I’m so sure of it that I won’t be putting in my order until tomorrow.

(If you don’t want to risk it, you can pre-order here: Castle Grayskull® – $250. Just do it before Midnight PST tonight!)

Last Chance to Get the Transforming Collections Toy Reference Book

Philip Reed is a great guy and I’m glad to have backed his Kickstarter project for Transforming Collections – a reference book for third party Transformers, which was succesfully funded at the end of September. If you missed out on that campaign and are still interested in the book, Philip is now taking pre-orders. I think there will be just one printing of the book, so get your pre-order for Transforming Collections in now. It will close when the book is ready to go to print, sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Transforming Collections Pre-Orders Now Open

As Transforming Collections — my book designed as an introduction to third party Transformers toys and accessories — comes together it is time to start accepting pre-orders for the 48-page full-color hardcover. You can check the Kickstarter project page for more information on the book.

I’m pushing to send the book to print this month and then it’s five to six weeks for the proofing and printing process. Books might ship before the end of 2012, but all books pre-ordered here will ship after the Kickstarter supporters’ copies so it’s likely books will not ship until 2013.

A single copy is $24.95 + shipping and handling charges (international runs about $40 total with shipping). The plan is to use bubble envelopes to help protect the books in shipment. Pre-orders will remain open until the book is sent to print and then it will be too late to pre-order a copy. Pre-ordered books do not include the Kickstarter bonuses.
