Get Your Personalized S.H.I.E.L.D. ID Card for Free!

Do you remember the eFX SHIELD Badge and ID Card from NYCC? One of the perks of getting the NYCC exclusive was a personalized SHIELD ID card – all you had to do was send in your picture and your name / vital stats and BAM, SHIELD agent with a card to prove it. Of course, you had to buy the SHIELD badge too, and that was $50. Now Cafepress has gone even further – they are offering a customized SHIELD ID card for free as a promotion for Captain America: The Winter Soldier! Or, nearly free, as it were. You’ve still got to pay the shipping, which is a a buck and change or more depending on where you are. It’s pretty simple – you just upload your photo and enter your info.

This version of the SHIELD ID has a red border, while the ID cards featured on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show are gold. But that doesn’t matter to you, right? I mean, free is free! Today’s a great day to pick one up – Cafepress is also running promotions this weekend on all their customized gear. Now if only someone would produce customized HYDRA ID cards, I’d be set.

Weekend Toy Run: 15% Off at the Voltron Store

Voltron fans – there’s a weekend sale at the Voltron Store for 15% off all purchases. I’m not positive that pre-orders will qualify, but if they do, then it’s a good deal for the relaunch of the Toynami Voltron line with the 30th Anniversary Voltron Collector’s Set. The pre-order price is $245, so saving $36.75 is nothing to sneeze at.

The set includes all five lions, in die-cast, and form a Voltron at 11-inches tall. It’s due to land in June this year. Let’s go, Voltron Force!

Check it, kids! From now until Monday, get 15% off all purchases at the Voltron store with this coupon code! Q88DPTIXX998

Marauder Task Force Gaming Figures Could Fill the G.I. JOE-Sized Void in Your Collection

A lot of collectors I know are feeling the void left by Hasbro’s G.I. JOE line moving steadily towards hiatus over the past couple years. But as the Joes fade away, there’s one company that’s targeting the niche market that Hasbro deemed too small – Marauder GR is in the midst of its Kickstarter project for its 1/18 scale Marauder Task Force Gaming Figures. And get this – they’ve already more than doubled their funding goal, raising nearly $80K with about two weeks left to go.

The project is to create a figure “system” that allows you to easily customize your figures to fit specific genres (military, sci-fi, and superhero builds are supported) as well as configuring your figures’ gear for each individual figure. And the figures themselves are highly detailed and well-articulated. I think fans of the more recent Joes will find these figures pretty exciting. Our pal, Doubledealer, is one of the talented sculptors behind this project – so be sure to check it out and kickstart this project before the funding period closes at the end of the month.

Hot Toys Announces Spidey from The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Hot Toys Amazing Spider-Man 2 01

We’re a couple of weeks away from the opening of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Hot Toys has revealed the first of its figures from the sequel to the reboot. This may be the first Spidey figure I’ve gotten from them – I’m still debating whether I like the Tobey Maguire version or the Andrew Garfield version better, but as far as the suits are concerned, this latest iteration is my favorite. Aside from the texture (which I can accept as a real-world interpretation), the darker blue color, and the long legs on the Spidey symbol, it’s the closest to the comics as it’s ever been.

Now, not having kept up with all the movie news, I’m not sure where the extra accessories fit in, but a bullhorn, parka, backpack, and knit hat don’t seem that exciting to me. I’m surprised they’re not including an unmasked head – but that might just mean another version (battle-damaged?) is in the works. If accessories are your thing, there’s an exclusive Plutonium canister – I am guessing that Sideshow will have this, even though my search for Spider-Man at Sideshow doesn’t have this figure listed yet. It soon should be.

NECA Highlights Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Series 1

DotPotA13

NECA has raised the bar on its product photography with a stunning pictorial of its upcoming first wave of figures from its Dawn of the Planet of the Apes line. Ceasar, Maurice, and Koba look to have some fantastic sculpted and painted details. Personally, I was hoping for a little more mobility from the articulation (these are apes, after all) – while there’s a lot of points of articulation, it looks like some movement is hindered by the sculpt.

Still, articulated monkeys, especially at NECA’s retail price point, should be a welcome addition to many toy collections. These hit shelves in May.
