Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Beta Ray Bill, Nova Prime, and Wonder Man

Marvel Legends Beta Ray Bill Marvel Legends Nova Prime Marvel Legends Wonder Man

This week, I found some more custom Marvel Legends that I’d like to have in my collection.

  • Marvel Legends Beta Ray Bill by Leech Customs – whether you prefer the Marvel Select Thor or the newer Marvel Legends Thor, the problem is that your Beta Ray Bill from back in the Toy Biz days is now a bit undersized – I’ve been thinking for a while about transposing some parts onto a newer Wrecking Crew body, and now I can see it will work out just great – as an added bonus, Stormbreaker has been enhanced with a very nice handle that hangs the way it should, no matter what position the hammer is in – ends Nov 28, 2013 18:54:15 PST
  • Marvel Legends Nova Prime by Draubner – there’s some really nice sculpting work on the armor pieces added to this custom, and the paint work is nice too – comes with alternate unmasked head and a custom base – ends today, Nov 26, 2013 07:40:37 PST
  • Marvel Legends Wonder Man by Stevid Customs – there’s so many characters that would benefit from the new Hyperion body, and Stevid is working through them – this week he’s not only got Wonder Man, but also Luke Cage and Gladiator – ends Nov 27, 2013 18:09:37 PST

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

Customizers, don’t forget to check out the submission guidelines for CustomCon 36. Submission deadline is this Friday, November 29 – contact me if you want to enter but need more time.

Sideshow Previews the Deadpool X-Force Premium Format Figure

Damn, I love me some Deadpool! And X-Force Deadpool brought the character back from the abyss that Daniel Way dropped him in when he took over the title from Fabian Nicieza. But in the X-Force gray and black, you’ve got to hope for the rest of the team to come along. Yes, even Fantomex.

Mattycollector Cyber Monday Sale Starts Tuesday and Lasts Eight Days

I’ve got a feeling that the marketing folks at Mattel just gave up when trying to name this sale that starts tomorrow. Sure, the Cyber Monday sale includes a Monday, but it starts on a Tuesday and it lasts eight days (not seven, as the promo claims) when you count Early Access. To make your brain jump through more hoops, Mattel highlights four items out of the “Cyber 6” (shown above) – these items aren’t discounted at all during the sale.

Most non Cyber 6 items will be up to 30% off. Some will be up to 50% off. And then you can get 10% or 20% more discount if you spend over $100 or $200. And then next Monday (ahh, Cyber Monday!) there will be hourly flash sales, including the two non-revealed Cyber 6 items that aren’t discounted. Confused yet? Come up with a name for this sale that makes sense and you can probably get a job at Mattel.

Bandai Reveals Plans for Tamashii Effect Impact Series

Tamashii Effect Impact 1 Tamashii Effect Impact 2

Speaking of Bandai, a couple weeks ago, I was intrigued by these effect pieces that they teased on their Facebook page. Now they’ve revealed the official plans for them. Coming out in 2Q next year, these will work with Bandai’s stands and will be part of a series of effects compatible with action figures like S.H. Figuarts. For $17.99 these may be what you’re paying for an action figure at mass market retail (although you’re likely paying more), but they’ll certainly add a lot of character to your action figure displays.

I haven’t tried out any of the Bandai Tamashii Stage stands, but I’ve heard good things and will probably pick one up to give it a try, in advance of these effects pieces coming out next year. What do you think of these babies?

Bandai Godzilla On Sale at Entertainment Earth Today Only

Godzilla Chibi Super Deformed Mini-Figure 6-Pack Godzilla Wave 4 Collectible 6-Inch Action Figure Set Godzilla 5.5-Inch Super Deformed Collector Figure Set

If you’re a Godzilla fan, Entertainment Earth has selected Godzilla items from Bandai on sale for nearly half off, as part of the Entertainment Earth sales leading up to Black Friday. If you’re looking for their S.H. MonsterArts figures, sadly, they’re not part of the sale – but there’s still some solid choices at nearly half off. The 6-inch vinyl figures are all relatively rare in the US, and while they don’t have a lot of articulation, the detail and paint is still pretty good. The total sales price is what you might pay for a single one of those figures from an online store.
