Hasbro (Return of) Marvel Legends Wave 3 Punisher Quick Pics

To be perfectly honest, I was hoping that I would get Blade in the set of Hasbro’s (Return of) Marvel Legends wave 3 that I pre-ordered. It’s not that this Punisher is a bad figure; on the contrary, it’s quite a good figure that’s also a dramatic improvement over the last Punisher that Hasbro made in Legends. It’s just that I’ve got enough Punishers to fill a 6-issue crossover between Uncanny X-Force (who meet the Punisher in the future), alternate reality hopping Exiles (who meet a version of Punisher in every dimension they visit), and a Punisher vs. Punisher one-shot (cause that’s at least two more Punishers).

Hasbro Marvel Universe Avengers Black Widow Sure is Purty!

I saw the 3.75-inch Avengers Black Widow at the Hasbro Preview Night before last year’s New York Comic Con – the lighting in the pictures I took was a bit harsh, but I remember thinking that the painted prototype was not too flattering to ScarJo. Usually the hand painted protos are the ideal, and the production pieces lose a little luster going through the factory assembly line. So I was surprised the other day at Talbot’s (a local toy, hobby, and bike store) to see that the Avengers Black Widow figure actually turned out much prettier in production than the prototype I saw last year. Still not quite a match for ScarJo, but I wouldn’t expect this in such a small figure.

Great job, Hasbro (and factory!)

Diamond Select Toys Silver Surfer Bottle Opener – Best Galactus Cosplay Accessory Ever?

I saw this Silver Surfer bottle opener and immediately thought of that awesome Galactus cosplayer – anyone have a link? This could be the perfect accessory for even the casual Galactus wannabe, although “I’M THIRSTY!” doesn’t quite have the same ring as “I HUNGER!”

Maybe “BEER ME, MY HERALD”… Nah, I didn’t think so.

Transforming Collections Toy Reference Book – Picture Candidates and Quick Update

About two weeks ago I posted about the Transforming Collections Toy Reference Book project on Kickstarter. Philip Reed, who is the man behind this book about third party add-ons for your Transformers, has been stopping by the various toy communities (for instance, check out his appearances on the WTF@TFW podcast and the CollectionDX video podcast) and is now on the verge of hitting his stretch target of adding four more pages to the book.

I asked him if he had made any decisions as to what pictures he’s going to include in the book. He told me not quite yet, but sent along five candidates. The project has already hit its initial funding target, so the book will get made. But it’s only going to be available through Kickstarter, so get your pre-order in now! Any additional pledges now will go towards stretch goals, which include additional pages, stickers, and even the potential to switch to hardcover. Just under two weeks to go!

Play Imaginative Super Alloy Batman (Special Edition)

I had never heard of Play Imaginative, but was very intrigued when the Super Alloy Batman was announced as an exclusive for the Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention that was held at the start of the month. You see, as much as I’ve been a fan of the Nolan-verse Batman and Hot Toys with their 1/6 scale Dark Knight figures, my love of Batman started in the comics. The Super Alloy Batman hits on a sweet spot for me – its design is comics-based, from legendary artist Jim Lee, and it’s super-articulated. Add to that the intriguing notion that much of the figure would be die cast metal, and I was hooked – I had to get one. The big question was, how would it stack up to Hot Toys, who in my view dominates the 1/6 scale for pop culture action figures.
