Masters of the Universe Classics Buzz-Off and Battle Armor Skeletor Pics

Mattel has updated their Facebook page with in package pics of Buzz-Off , some WIP shots of Battle Armor Skeletor, and some updates on Grizzlor and the Palace Guards. Who can figure out the hint for the April figure? If you’ve got a guess, leave a reply!

Hey gang,

A few new MOTUC updates for you.

  1. We just got in early samples of Buzz-Off in package. Note that we will see if there is time to turn his helmet around in package. Still pending.
  2. Got some new images of Battle Armor Skeletor as well with the chest plates and axe. Still not 100% final, but getting closer. Check out those purple feet just like fans demanded!
  3. Grizzlor’s head is removable. Earlier we had thought it would not be. Looks like I spoke to soon!
  4. The Palace Guards are slipping out a bit due to some logistics (yes we know how you feel about this word…). Look for them now at the start of 2011. Note they are not part of the 2011 subscription even if they slip out to early 2011 avail.

A lot more MOTUC greatness is coming in 2011. We should have the April figure to reveal soon. The sculpt just came in and looks fantastic. Once it is painted we’ll reveal this next figure to the fans. Here is a hint, he is a member of the Masters….

That’s it for now, see you in the toy aisles or on Mattycollector.com!

Hot Toys Announces Terminator T-800

Hot Toys Terminator T-800 08.jpg

Hot Toys teased us with a pic of Ahhnold’s T-800 from The Terminator working on his busted arm, and now we’ve got the pictures from their product announcement. I’m very pleased that they included a battle-damaged version of his head from that movie, but I really think he should come with a pair of sunglasses as an accessory.

There are some really cool insights from the Four Horsemen how cost can impact product feature decisions for action figures. There’s some very interesting reading here.

Way back when the voting was going on for Scarabus, you guys – the FANtastic FANatics chose how much and what kind of articulation Scarabus should have. Well, at that time, Scarabus’ evil prevailed and the pricing structure for the figure with all of the articulation and other features added in turned out to be much more expensive to produce than we’d planned, so Scarabus was pulled back temporarily so we could figure out a more cost effective way to produce him.

Scarabus went through a few costing phases with multiple factories before we finally came upon a factory that could not only offer us a decent competitive price for everything we wanted to include, but they would also provide us with the production quality that we expected.

A couple of alterations still would have to be made to keep the production costs at a point where we could pass the figure on to you at a decent price, but they’re alterations that we can all live with.

First, although we feared that a lot of the articulation would have to be removed from Scarabus, the only thing that really had to be removed was the “ab crunch”. With the detailed sculpting on top of that area requiring separate parts made out of a different material, the extra costs were just unnecessary.

Second was the cape. Although we would like to have had a cloth cape on this figure instead of the soft plastic cape that we’re going with, the unit cost would have doubled for each figure. WAY to much expense to eat or pass on to our fans!

So, here is a diagram of the articulation you can expect with the gruesome guardian of Gothitropolis. Take a look, and then hit the Gothitropolis section of the FANtastic Exclusive message boards to let us know what you think!

Hot Toys Terminator Teaser Pic

I hope they release the T-800 from the original Terminator movie with a normal and battle-damaged head, with no eyebrows and the robotic eye exposed. He’ll be back.

Some of you have got it right for the classic character that we are going to announce!

Guess who is doing “surgery” for himself in the photo? He is coming from the future this Friday! Stay tuned!

That’s right, even if you can’t make it to the New York Comic Con (Oct. 8, 9, 10 – 2010), the owners of AFX & Toy Tokyo have graciously agreed to allow us to sell an extra 30 of each of the four OSM characters (Astro-Nautilus, Inferno, Metamorpho & Xodiac) as a set so that everyone will have a chance to own them!

Sales through Store Horsemen will be strictly limited to one set per customer for the first 24 hours. If, after the first 24 hours, there are any sets left to be sold, sales will be opened to unlimited amounts per customer.

After the alloted 30 sets are sold, any accidentally sold sets beyond the initial 30 will be cancelled.

You do not need to be registered to FANtastic Exclusive to purchase the sets this time. You just have to be there on time and be quick on the draw.
