Is Marvelman a Hasbro Marvel Universe Exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con?

ToyOtter at ActionFigureInsider pointed out this article at Bleeding Cool – claiming a Marvelman exclusive from Hasbro for San Diego Comic-Con. It’s got the ring of truth to it, but I’ll look for confirmation. Last year, Hasbro produced multiple Marvel Universe exclusives for SDCC, so I don’t think Marvelman is precluded by the Ages of Thunder Thor and Ultimate Captain America that they announced at Toy Fair.

Hasbro To Debut Marvelman Figure At San Diego

Last year, Joe Quesada announced that Marvel had bought the rights to the Marvelman character from Mick Anglo. Last month we discovered Marvel were publishing a number of classic Marvelman strips from the fifties and sixties. And now it seems Hasbro are getting in on the act with a Marvelman toy. And making it a San Diego 2010 Exclusive.

Negotiations over the rights to the Alan Moore/Garry Leach/Alan Davis/Chuck Austen/Rick Vietch/Jon Totleben/Neil Gaiman/Mark Buckingham run on the book from the nineteen eighties have still not been fully nailed down, so the odds are that the character will be based on the original Mick Anglo designs rather than the Garry Leach look.

And odds are it should look a little better than the Todd McFarlane versions….

1) We’ve seen Marvel Universe card art for the Iron Patriot that shows Norman Osborn unmasked, holding the Iron Patriot helmet. Will the upcoming figure include an Iron Patriot head, a Norman Osborn head, or (we hope) both?

Marvel Announces Exclusive Marvel Universe Figure for Digital Comics Subscribers

Just over a week ago, Marvel announced a Fan’s Choice Vote to select the exclusive Marvel Universe figure that would be offered to Digital Comics subscribers this year. Today, the results are in! I’m not surprised at the fan pick, but had hoped we would get a figure that wouldn’t be a straight up repaint of an upcoming figure.

Hasbro has shared some pictures of upcoming products across its boys toys lines – Marvel, Star Wars, and Transformers (GI Joe was absent this update).  This month, the Marvel team is the big winner, with a slew of pics across Spider-Man, Iron Man, Marvel Universe, and Super Hero Squad – 174 of them! Marvel Universe Exclusive Figure Fan Choice Vote – Archangel, Ms. Marvel, or Norman Osborn

When we saw Mike Deodato’s Marvel Universe card art, it begged the question of whether we’d be getting a Norman Osborne figure in his HAMMER outfit. Now we know that he’s just one of three choices for the exclusive figure that will be offered to Marvel Digital Comics subscribers, like Nick Fury was last year.

Personally, I think that X-Force Archangel and Dark Avengers Ms. Marvel (Karla Sofen) are easy variants for Hasbro to make for the upcoming Archangel and existing Ms. Marvels, so I hope that people vote for Norman. At least we’d be getting a new Norman Osborn head (if we aren’t getting one with the upcoming Iron Patriot figure already.)
