DC Universe Classics Wave 15 Martian Manhunter Hidden Feature Revealed

I’ve got the review of the DC Universe Classics wave 15 Sinestro Corps Batman up today, and I’ll have a full on review on the Martian Manhunter in a few days, but first, here’s a Martian Manhunter Mystery Revealed!

Seems like old Uncle Matty has been keeping secrets again. My good friend, Xavion2004 dropped in to visit today and brought along a regular Martian Manhunter for me as I had gotten the alien featured variant version from Amazon. I told Xavion2004 that, instead of displaying both, I would probably modify the heads and hands to make them swappable. After Xavion took off for home, I decided to see just how much work it would be to do those mods. Little did I expect it to be easier than I ever imagined!

As I was examining JJ’s head I realized it felt a little more rubbery than other DCUC heads. My customizer’s intuition kicked in and I pushed his chin up a bit… Lo and behold, his head popped off easier than a MOTUC figure’s! Wondering if it might be a fluke, I grabbed my variant MM and performed the same move and the head popped off just as easy. The hand was next! Just to be careful, I gave the right arm of the variant about a 20 second blast from the hairdryer to soften it up and carefully popped the scythe hand off. There on the end, instead of the normal cone shaped peg, was a nice ball shaped peg. Performing the same operation on the regular MM, I found the same type peg on his right hand. Very obviously, Martian Manhunter was originally tooled for these parts to be swappable.

^ Same body as the pic above, but with alien features activated!

The hands are a bit harder to pop off than the head so I would advise some caution when swapping them, might not be a bad idea the first time around to warm the forearm up a little bit in some hot water or, like I described above, with a hairdryer.

The evidence revealed!

Guess the other mystery is; were the alien head and scythe hand originally intended to be pack-ins? Only Toy Guru knows…

  1. where’s wave 14??!!!! Kamandi, Gold where are you??!!! matty i’m gonna punch ou in the face for this debacle

  2. Sweet! I needs me a regular manhunter and the Starmen, hopefully that KMart sale next week would be abundant with stock. I can’t see scalpers passing up on the price though, I need some luck hunting next week! Thanks for the detailed pics Buzzy!

  3. Fantastic find! Sucks, Matty didn’t go through with the pack-in accessories instead of a the minimalist variant sucking another $15 out of our wallets. I ran into wave 15 at Kmart yesterday, however, all three of the MMs they had featured the incorrect, thin arms.

  4. Mattel sucks! They rip you off and then yell at you for it. Cornerstorecomics has told me that Mattel is not sending them what they ordered for another bunch of BS reasons similar to what happened with the Chemo line! So it does not surprise me that they went this way and it was obvious to me that theses heads and hands should have been all included and interchangeable as they were apparently supposed to be but to money grubbing leaches who probably get off on paying taxes by diverting funds to Bermuda or the Caimens like all other A$$%ole consumer corporate machines. I hate Mattel mostly cause I keep buying there toys! Mattel you suck and I hope those who are responsible burn right beside me in Hell! Now go make my toys!

  5. Wave 14 is the new Wave 5, Wave 15 is the new Wave 3, Wave 12-13 is the new Wave 6-7 and so and so forth..
