Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Variants – Sentry, Bulldozer, and Bob

This week I’m highlighting a few Marvel Legends variants that Hasbro had planned (or should have planned) to make, before the variant swaps fell through for the line.

  • Marvel Legends Sentry by Eddie_grayce – Sentry was to have been the variant to Hyperion, which would have made it two Superman analogues released in that wave – much like Superman, once you have an all-powerful being in the comics, you have a tough time finding interesting challenges for him – luckily for Marvel, they didn’t have much invested, so Sentry’s heel turn in Dark Avengers let them eventually kill him off (and give him a shot at other incarnations) – ends Feb 13, 2014 15:15:06 PST
  • Marvel Legends Bulldozer by Toycooker – Bulldozer was originally intended to come out as a variant to the Wrecker – I hope if Hasbro finds a way to release this variant they’ll reconsider the classic version with a little less hardware around the neck – ends Feb 12, 2014 08:31:53 PST
  • Marvel Legends Bob, Agent of Hydra by glennwebman69 – this custom is such a relatively simple one that I’m surprised Hasbro didn’t make a chase Bob figure with the Hydra agent from the Captain America Marvel Legends Infinite Series – ends Feb 16, 2014 16:20:08 PST

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

This upcoming weekend we’ll be braving the cold weather in New York City to attend the Hasbro Toy Fair Preview, of which Marvel will be one of the major brands to show – among others, Transformers, Star Wars, and in a limited capacity, G.I. JOE. But we’ve got some catching up to do, so here are some updates to the Hasbro Marvel lines which will bring us up to speed before the big event.

Bandai Announces S.H. MonsterArts Alien Big Chap

When I saw the S.H. MonsterArts Aliens vs. Predators figures at NYCC, I was hoping Bandai had more of those movie franchises licensed. And they do! They’ve revealed the one that started it all, the Big Chap from Alien. Super-articulated (the tail has 18 individual segments) and using some die-cast, this should be some real hand candy for Aliens fans.

Due out this summer in June, the MSRP is $53.99. In space, no one can hear you scream.

Hot Toys Announces Iron Man 2: Whiplash Mark II

Hot Toys Iron Man 2 Whiplash Mk II 01

With the Winter Olympics starting this weekend, this serves as a good warning about what happens when you deny a tech-savvy Russian his bird. Luckily, Hot Toys is here with a reminder – the Whiplash Mk II from Iron Man 2. The original Hot Toys Whiplash, from his first appearance at the race track, came out way back in 2010.

Whiplash Mk II is part of the Hot Toys Diecast line, so expect it to be a little more expensive than your standard Hot Toys figure. It will still come with all the things you expect, like multiple heads, light up whips, and more. You can pre-order the Hot Toys Whiplash Mk II from Sideshow Collectibles for $399.99 and a deposit of $39.99.
