SDCC 2012: Hot Toys Lt. Jim Gordon, Angelica, and “Rescue” Captain America Exclusives

Hot Toys has announced three “Toy Fairs” figures – Lt. Jim Gordon from the Dark Knight, Angelica from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Captain America in the outfit in which he rescues the Howling Commandos. (Sorry if that’s still a spoiler to anyone out there – watch that movie already!)

According to the Sideshow “Toy Fairs” Facebook announcement, these figures will be exclusive to various shows around the world, and for the US, that means San Diego Comic-Con. Rescue Cap has been up for pre-order at Sideshow Toys for a few days, and Hot Toys says to stay tuned to Sideshow for more info on the other two. I wonder if Sideshow will have these for sale at the show – I’d be very tempted by that SWAT version of Gordon.

SDCC 2012: DC Collectibles Reveals 3.75-Inch Kyle Rayner and Kilowog 2-Pack – New Scale to be Con Exclusive

DC Collectibles (formerly known as DC Direct) has revealed a Kyle Rayner and Kilowog 2-pack for San Diego Comic-Con in the 3.75-inch scale. It’s a curious choice, since DCD has always been firmly entrenched in the somewhat fluid 6 to 7-inch scale. Also curious is that this scale will be available only at conventions. I can only surmise that the DCD guys have felt the void in the scale that GI Joe and Star Wars have made pervasive, since Mattel shut down its underperforming effort with DC Infinite Heroes.

With a con-only line, though, Rayner and Kilowog will be lonely. The promise of the smaller scale is getting a whole mess of characters for your shelves, like we hoped for with DC Infinite Heroes and what we have been getting with Hasbro’s Marvel Universe line. If this set sells like gangbusters, I imagine that we’ll see this scale from DC Collectibles make its way to your local comic book stores and specialty retailers. Let’s put on our Blue Lantern rings and hope!

SDCC 2012: Marvel Legends Uncanny X-Force 3-Pack – Must Have Exclusive

Uncanny-X-Force-group-1.jpg

Sure, I am a Marvel Legends fan, and I love me some Uncanny X-Force – but make no mistake – if you don’t get this exclusive 3-pack, either from Hasbro’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con or from HasbroToyShop.com after the show, you will be sorry.

Skeletor and Evil-Lyn – Easy Photoshop Tips for Difficult Compositions

Skeletor and Evil-Lyn

This weekend I saw that Netflix added He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (all 130 episodes!), so I watched the first, The Cosmic Comet. There’s a scene in which Skeletor and Evil-Lyn scheme away, with Skeletor’s face filling the left side of the frame with Evil-Lyn visible over his shoulder. Thinking that it would be a good picture to recreate with the Masters of the Universe Classics Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, I tried – but could not. With the extreme closeup of Skeletor, I couldn’t set up my camera to keep both his face and Evil-Lyn in focus.

No problem! With Photoshop, I knew I could combine the elements I wanted from a few different pictures to get the composition I wanted. Best of all, it’s easy. Here’s what I did – you can use similar techniques to put together images that you normally couldn’t with a single shot from an ordinary camera.

Pop Culture Shock Mortal Kombat Life Size Busts – the Eyes Have It

Nothing says FLAWLESS VICTORY like a life size bust of Mortal Kombat’s Sub Zero. I can see putting this near my front door to scare the crap out of trick or treaters this Halloween. There will be three versions – a standard version with painted eyes, a limited PERS-like poseable eyes version for a 200-piece Sideshow exclusive, and Pop Culture Shock’s own 50-piece exclusive with light-up eyes.

Pop Culture Shock’s Jerry Macaluso has been sculpting some very provocative Darkstalkers and Street Fighter mixed media statues, so I can only imagine what he’ll do with a *life size* bust of Sonya Blade. GET OVER HERE!
