NECA Announces 12-Inch Terminator 2 Final Battle T-800

I’ve often been tempted by the 12-inch Pescadero Escape T-800 from T2 that I’ve seen on the shelves at Toys R Us, but have yet to pull the triger on it.  Now that Hot Toys has announced a new MMS version of the T-800, I may be saving up for that.  The NECA 12-inchers are a very nice, cheaper alternative, and this final battle version could also be an interesting source of fodder for those interested in customizing the upcoming Hot Toys piece.

Sometimes He Comes Back

The T-800 takes licking, keeps half his face

He knows now why you cry, and that’s probably because the T-1000 has delivered such an unholy beating his way. But as we all know, the T-800 just can’t be stopped.

As the world sits in awe of yet another James Cameron classic, NECA pays homage to the greatest and most groundbreaking of them all: Terminator 2: Judgment Day with this incredibly lifelike 12″ figure of the T-800 as he appeared in the last moments of the final battle of the film.

Before reality got all topsy-turvy and Arnold Schwarzenegger became a respected politician on the national stage, he was the T-800, and NECA’s new Final Battle 12″ figure captures his likeness better than ever on a 1/6 scale! Each figure features a light up cybernetic right eye and comes complete with a grenade launcher for all your “Hasta la vista, baby” needs!

The Final Battle T-800 is open for preorders now, hits stores February 2010 and will be available at our Amazon storefront.

Keep it tuned to necaonline.com for more info on T2 and other lines from your favorite games and movies.

McFarlane Major League Baseball Playmakers Preview

McFarlane has provided a first look at its new 4-inch super-articulated line of figures for Major League Baseball, Playmakers.  It looks like there will be different body types (I see subtle differences in the knees and pant legs), so Ramirez will look bigger than Jeter, for example.  The articulation looks pretty good to me too, with the biggest limitations in the hips and ankles.

Still no indication of whether figures will include interchangeable heads and hands to switch between fielding and batting or what the suggested retail price will be.

Brand New Action Figure Line and Format Coming to Stores this March

McFarlane Toys is excited to reveal a first look at the highly anticipated addition to our sports action figure lines — MLB Playmakers. As announced last November, Playmakers is a completely new type of McFarlane Toys product based on our existing sports licenses. These new action figures include the high level of detail McFarlane Toys is known for in a newly developed 4-inch scale figure. The addition of tremendous articulation, more than 20 moving parts, allows for complete playability and enables consumers to recreate countless sports action poses. All figures come in either a batter or fielder pose, except for pitchers.

While we aren’t ready to show you the entire line, you can take a “seventh inning stretch” from what you are doing and check out this sampling from Series 1 and see the playability and detail this great new line has to offer.

MLB PLAYMAKERS SERIES 1

  • DEREK JETER (fielding) — New York Yankees
  • ALBERT PUJOLS (batting) — St. Louis Cardinals
  • MANNY RAMIREZ (batting) — Los Angeles Dodgers

Other players in Series 1 include:

  • David Ortiz
  • Ryan Howard
  • Alex Rodriguez
  • Dustin Pedroia
  • David Wright
  • Josh Beckett
  • Chipper Jones

First Look – DC Universe Classics Dr. Mid-Nite – TheFwoosh.com

I love DC Universe Classics, so don’t hate me when I say that sometimes it feels like these toys are coming out too fast.  It feels like I just got wave 11, and wave 12 is right on its heels.  DisThunder from the Fwoosh gives us a quick first look at Dr. Mid-Nite.  I can’t wait to add him to my JSA / Earth 2 shelf!

One of the things about Mid-Nite I’ve always liked is the clean yet striking look of his golden age costume. In fact, it was a deciding factor on whether I liked Pieter or not as well. There’s some really clean transitions here, the glove and boot-lines in particular, and some very good choices in color. Whereas guys like Commander Steel come off very metallic and glossy, Mid-Nite has nice dulled tones, the only bright spots his crescent moon clasps and his goggles- the latter having just a hint of metallic paint.

First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics Trap Jaw – TheFwoosh.com

Here’s another Masters of the Universe Classics first look at the Fwoosh, this time of Trap Jaw, due in February.  Just based on the pictures, I am pretty sure Trap Jaw (and Kronis) will displace Tri-Klops as the top villain in my MOTUC collection.  And with Battle Armor He-Man coming this month, I think Man-At-Arms will have some worthy competition on the hero side.  Not a bad start to MOTUC in 2010!

Now, Kronis is pretty cool for an intergalactic bounty hunter, but one horrible, disfiguring fight later, and TRAP JAW is just so much cooler. Like his MOTUC brethren that came before him, this figure expands on every little detail that made the original great, then adds things to make it even better.

I will start with the head – Trap Jaw is positively batpoopy crazy. His eyes are insane, wide open, bright yellow with this tiniest pupils. He is not to be messed with. Then there is the (fully articulated) jaw. This one simple point of articulation makes Trap Jaw so expressive. Depending oh how it is positioned, he can go from scary-mean, to crazy to almost cutely mischievous grin. You can also see the mess of a mouth he has left behind that metal mandible, no detail left unturned by the Four Horsemen.

First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics Adora – TheFwoosh.com

The Fwoosh has a first look at the first Princess of Power figure to be included in Masters of the Universe Classics – Adora, twin sister of Prince Adam.  VeeBee puts a positive spin on how Adora turned out, but I’ve got to fall in the other camp here.  The final product is a mixed bag, and very much what I was expecting based on the earlier pics.  She’s got a great looking face with beautiful paint apps, but her “skirt” really makes her look frumpy.  The pliability of the material is a positive, the hit for it is pretty steep.

So there she is in all of her glory and I am happy to say that is certainly an instance where the final product turned out MUCH nicer that early peeks seemed to indicate. Hopefully this with charge a lot of people and we can have more interest in the Princess of Power characters. I know I am a strong advocate for them, but I hope Adora will win a lot of people over. They are an essential part of the Masters mythos and, as I said before, I cannot to see the Horsemen’s take on the likes of Frosta, Catra, Glimmer and Mermista. Bring them on! We know She-Ra is coming but hopefully we can start looking forward to three or four PoP characters a year.
