Hot Toys 300 King Leonidas Press Pics

Just as they promised, Hot Toys released info on the first figure from their new 300 license – King Leonidas.  I had wondered how Hot Toys would handle the articulation on a mostly nude figure, and it looks like on the arms and legs it’ll be flexible “skin” over an articulated armature.  Cool!

I don’t think at this stage the likeness to Gerard Butler is there, but Hot Toys will probably release pics with the final head closer to production, like they did recently with Wolverine, John Connor, and Marcus Wright.  In the meantime, I think it’s ok to drool over this and still consider yourself a manly man. 😉

Bio Shock Press Pics

We first saw the new Bio Shock figures at San Diego Comic-Con, where my friend Industrial went gaga over them.  He never played the game, but I’m betting he’ll be buying these.  He’s also trying to get me hooked on World War Robot and the new 1/12 scale figures from 3A Toys, but so far I’m resisting!

Who’s Your Big Daddy?

BioShock returns with a new game and new figures!

BigDaddyBouncerinPackSubjectDelta

It’s 1970, 10 years after the original BioShock. We’re back in BioShock 2 in the dystopian underwater city of Rapture, but now it’s controlled by Sophia Lamb, whose message of collective conscious is spread by a priest-turned-cult-leader. Additionally, to maintain order in the city, Lamb has created an army of Big Daddy-like enforcers called Big Sisters and sent them to abduct little girls from towns on the Atlantic Coast and bring them back to Rapture to create new Little Sisters.

Suddenly, the prototype Big Daddy from the original production line reactivates with no recollection of what’s happened in the past 10 years. After scouring the city in a vain attempt to find the Little Sister he was originally paired with, he realizes Sophia Lamb’s evil plan and seeks to overthrow Lamb and her army of Big Sisters.

BioShock 2 doesn’t release until next year, but NECA has already begun celebrating the sequel to the original 2K Games smash with a sneak preview deluxe figure of the Big Daddy Bouncer, which is in stores now! Our BioShock 2 line officially kicks off in January with the Series 1 assortment:

Subject Delta (formerly the Big Daddy player) is highly detailed and over 7″ tall, has removable hoses and backpack tanks, an interchangeable drill arm, and ball joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees and ankles.

BigSisterLittleSister2PackBigSisterLittleSister4

Big Sister is of similarly massive 7″-plus proportion and detail. She has a removable backpack with a cage basket just the right size for capturing a Little Sister and ball joints at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees ankles and ab crunch.

Finally, Little Sister has an ADAM syringe and ball jointed neck and shoulders, hinged elbows and knees and a v-crotch. And yes, she does actually fit in Big Sister’s basket.

There will be a Toys R Us exclusive two-pack with Big Sister and Little Sister packaged together, and even more BioShock 2 announcements to follow, including details on the EVE Hypo light-up replica and the Big Daddy plush doll, as seen on the Xbox Live Marketplace and in the BioShock 2 ad campaign!

Of course, keep it tuned to necaonline.com and our Amazon storefront for more on BioShock 2 and other lines from your favorite games and movies.

Marvel Select Cyclops Press Pic

classic-cyclopsX-Men 138 CoverX-Factor 26 Cover

Diamond Select Toys has just published a picture of the next Marvel Select figure – Cyclops in his Silver Age costume, or what I like to call condom-headed Cyke.

I know a lot of people like the Jim Lee Cyclops costume from the 90’s, but this look is still my favorite (although his costume in the Whedon / Cassaday run of Astonishing X-Men is right up there).  So, if I were giving the art direction on this piece, I’d tell them to make the belt wider and the yellow trunks longer – they could accomplish this by putting the belt above the waist swivel.  The X-buckle should be yellow inside, and the top of his visor should also have more curve.  See?  I’m nuts about this costume.

I also find the X-Factor variant an odd choice – given the pairing with Jean Grey, who was made in her classic Marvel Girl costume with a Rachel Grey variant, and the frequency with which we get Marvel Select figures, X-Factor Cyke will be unhappy and alone for a good long time.  Maybe that’s fitting, because that’s in line with how he was during most of the original X-Men’s run in X-Factor. 😉

Complete the Happy Couple with Silver Age Cyclops

Oh come on, when we created the Jean Grey figure for Marvel Select you HAD to have known that a companion Cyclops wasn’t far behind. Well, here he is. We’ve also worked up a variant based on the first X-Factor outfit, but that’s for another post.

Huge Mattel WWE Update: Series 1 Press Pics and Series 2 Sneak Peek

It’s been a long dry spell since Mattel surprised the wrestling collecting community in February, when it announced it would be taking over the WWE license from long-time holder JAKKS Pacific.  There was hardly a trickle of news until they teased us last month with a press release and a couple of pictures.

Now, with January 1 right around the corner, Mattel has opened the floodgates.  These pics were released through their new Facebook page for Mattel / WWE.  Didn’t know they had a Facebook page?  It was news to me too.

Halo Series 7 Press Pics

I wouldn’t quite say that I was on pins and needles for this McFarlane announcement, as the McF PR people would suggest.  Even though Halo is probably the best McFarlane line ever, I stopped playing the video game franchise at Halo 2.  But because it’s so good, I’m still cherry-picking the toys.

I just picked up the Toys R Us exclusive Mongoose set, but it’s been relegated to the new pile of unopened toys that I hope to one day photograph.  My wife won’t allow me to call it “New Staging Area One” so I’ll take suggestions on what to christen it, even though I know I’ll have to dismantle it really soon.

‘HALO’ SERIES 7 PHOTOGRAPHY REVEALED

Seventh Figure Assortment Coming to Target and Other Stores Early January

The wait is finally over. McFarlane Toys is excited to present this first look at our seventh Halo action figure assortment. Based on the popular Halo video game universe, this assortment includes characters from the Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo Wars video games.

Halo Series 7 will release to stores nationwide in January 2010. We hope the photography will help you cope with having to wait a bit longer before you can own these fantastic action figures.
