It seems like everyone is trying to make “retro” style figures these days, particularly on Kickstarter, but this one seems like something special. Warpo Toys has gone all out and hired artists and sculptors from the 70s-80s toy industry, and gone as far as to make a retro style commercial, catalog and packaging/artwork.

The Legends of Cthulhu Retro Action Figure Toy Line Kickstarter project launched yesterday and has a $60K funding target to reach by June 9. They’re off to a good start, currently over halfway there in just a day. Give it a look!

Hot Toys Teases All Five Guardians of the Galaxy

As if I wasn’t hyped enough for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, opening August 1, Hot Toys has to stoke the fires by teasing not one, but all five of the rag-tag team. Last time they did this it was for the Hot Toys Avengers line-up – but that already had three bankable franchises behind it. Hot Toys must think Guardians is a pretty sure thing. Awesome!

Marvel Studios’ upcoming summer blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy, will expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos! The space adventure film will follow Starlord Peter Quill and a team of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer to save the galaxy!

Following the release of the film’s latest TV Spot, Hot Toys is excited to share with you all a peek of the range of collectibles that we are developing based on this action packed movie!

Please stay tuned for more updates coming soon!

Hot Toys Reveals Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Hot Toys The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro 01

I have not seen The Amazing Spider-Man 2 yet, but have seen some of the previews and have the 6-inch figure from the Hasbro Spider-Man Legends line. The design is a big departure from the big-screen-unfriendly green and yellow costume from the comics, but is a bit too reminiscent of Mr. Freeze from the horrible Joel Schumacher Batman & Robin to give me good feelings about the movie. For those of you who’ve seen it – how was it?

Still, the figure looks to be incredibly rendered by Hot Toys, and with the addition of LED lights in what looks like both the head and hands, this should be a visually engaging figure for the shelves of Amazing Spidey 2 fans. I’m not sold yet (and probably won’t be unless the movie blows me away), but if you are, you can pre-order him when he shows up at Sideshow Toys. Last I checked, he’s not yet there.

Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. and Skeleton Warriors Launched on Kickstarter

Two action figure campaigns launched on Kickstarter yesterday. A few hours after posting our teaser for Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. project, Boss Fight Studio got the green light from Kickstarter and opened up the Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. campaign. And shortly thereafter, October Toys took their campaign for a Skeleton Warriors revival live. It’s pretty cool that in times when the big toy companies are having trouble getting licensed product to retail shelves, small independents are able to utilize the crowdfunding channel to get their products to collectors.

Get Ready to Kickstart Boss Fight Studio’s Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. 4-Inch Action Figures

Vitruvian HACKS - Cursed Medusa

Boss Fight Studio, the design and sculpting group behind the recently over-funded Marauder Task Force Gaming Figures project, is getting ready to launch their own 4-inch action figures on Kickstarter. While the Marauder Task Force focused on the military genre and plans to expand into science fiction and superheros, Boss Fight Studio’s Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. starts out in the fantasy genre with Greek warriors vs. the Gorgons, and plans to expand into other fantasy genres as well as outer space.

H.A.C.K.S. aspires to be more than an ordinary action figure line – Boss Fight Studio plans the line to be a system for easy army building and customizing. The name may evoke the combat you’ll be waging between the Greeks and the Gorgons, but officially it stands for “Highly Articulated Character Kit System.” And don’t make the mistake of thinking the name somehow besmirches the capabilities of the five principals of Boss Fight Studio; the three designers and two sculptors (one of them is our long-time pal, Doubledealer) are no hacks – they cut their teeth working at Hasbro on the big brands – G.I. JOE, Marvel, Star Wars, and more.
