Update: Toy Guru has posted details on Mattel’s Facebook page. His comments are quoted below.

I was lucky enough to be able to watch Mattel’s reveals for their San Diego Comic-Con exclusives on yesterday’s Attack of the Show, but it all went by so quickly. So I took a few screen caps to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Probably still did, so let me know of any glaring omissions.

Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics and DC Comic-Con Exclusives Announced on Attack of the Show

On Attack of the Show today, Blair Butler visited Mattel’s Toy Guru, aka Scott Neitlich, to get the skinny on Mattel’s San Diego Comic-Con exclusives. Without further ado, here’s what was revealed:

  • Masters of the Universe Classics Skeletor and Mo-Larr from the Robot Chicken sketch – we saw this set at Mattel’s collector event at Toy Fair. Skeletor is missing a tooth, like he is at the end of the sketch.
  • Masters of the Universe Classics Orko – comes with a Prince Adam “accessory.” Adam, a fully-articulated figure, was positioned in the package sideways below Orko, obscured partially by standard packaging. When you dip Orko in hot water, he turns transparent and “disappears.” When you dip his spellbook in hot water, the SDCC logo appears. I imagine the SDCC logo is exclusive to the version that will be sold at SDCC, but I’m not sure if Orko’s disappearing act is also exclusive to the show version.
  • DC Universe Classics Plastic Man – he’ll come with attachments, with the suitcase as the SDCC exclusive piece. His head and arms plug into the suitcase.
  • DC Infinite Heroes Starro and Justice League 5-Pack. This will be a bendable Starro that looks like it could be 12-inches tall, and comes with the original Justice League in what looked to be Infinite Heroes scale – Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman. In addition, there’s mini-Starros that look to fit on the faces of both the DCIH pack-ins and DC Universe Classics figures.

Stay tuned for another AOTS segment on the 15th!

Don’t Miss the Fwoosh DC Universe Classics March Madness Tourney Final Four

Argh! Blue Beetle took out Batman with a late afternoon surge. And now we’re down to the Final Four participants. Looking at the entire field, there’s a lot of other figures that I think were worthy of making it this far, but there’s the luck of the draw, and there’s no telling who people are actually going to vote for.

I’m pulling for Deathstroke and Kilowog this round. Go vote!

124 down, just three to go! We have reached the Tournament Semifinals (better known to most as the Final Four) and while we say “smell ya later” to Thanagar, Rann, Qward and Korugar the action is about to get even bigger. Good thing for us the next two stops for the tournament are Apokolips and New Genesis where EVERYTHING is bigger and we are set for two match-ups of Fourth World proportions! Before we go, let’s look at the wrap-up of the last round:

  • On Thanagar, Green Arrow soundly dispatched Darkseid 65-35 promising the latter will only play host and not participant on his home planet in the next round.
  • Qward hosted the biggest margin of victory of the round as Deathstroke barely broke a sweat againt Metamorpho 75-25. Rex had a great run, but 90% brain utilization just proved too much for him.
  • Rann, on the other hand, was the scene of the closest match-up of the tournament thus far as the Blue Beetle took down Batman to the tune of 51-49: it was an actual margin of victory of near single digits. Finally, we can put it to rest once and for all: Blue Beetle > Batman!
  • Not to be outdone, Korugar produced the SECOND closest round of the tournament as Kilowog barely held off a late-surging Joker 51-49. The big K’s victory gap was only two votes wider than Ted’s. Kilowog finally faced a challenge in the voting and he is now surely battle tested.

Now it is your responsibility to whittle the field down to the final two, so vote wisely. Who do you think are the best two figures of the DC Universe lines? Vote now, and remember: voting for this round ends on April 4th.

  • Finals: April 5-6

Customizing Tips From The Buzzy Cave: Eliminating Paint Rub From DC Universe Classics Customs – Part 1 Shoulder Discs

Passing on some tips, tricks or minutiae that will help make action figure customizing easier for someone out there.

Howdy all! Buzzy Fret coming at ya with another tutorial from the dark, dank Buzzy Cave.

Paint rub! The bane of customizers that wish to maintain the poseable part of the their poseable action figures! There are a lot of tips and tricks out there to try to keep the oh-so fragile acrylic paint clinging to the plastic of your customs but, in my experience, nothing works like breaking the figure down and attacking those rub points with a Dremel and sandpaper. I know, I know, it’s time consuming, it’s hard, it’s not as much fun as painting and sculpting. Well maybe I’m mental, but I just can’t see why anyone would spend so much time and effort trying to make a beautiful looking custom out of a poseable action figure just to see the paint scrape off when you move a limb on it.
