Mattel Lands License for Voltron

Hot on the heels of Bandai’s announcement that they will be making toys to accompany the relaunch of ThunderCats, we’ve got another revival of a classic animated franchise from the ’80s. Voltron will also be getting a new animated series in 2011, on NickToons, and Mattel will be making the toys.

Voltron hasn’t been out of the market that long – the 25th anniversary was last year, and Toynami produced collector-oriented classic Voltron diecast and vinyl toys.

First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics Keldor – TheFwoosh.com

In just over a week, I hope to right the grievous wrong that was inflicted upon me. It was 2003, and I was at my first San Diego Comic-Con. I ended up in the wrong line at the Mattel booth, and instead of being able to pick up the exclusive Keldor for the MOTU 200X line, I could only get a Batman figure in the process of unmasking. Argh!

So don’t let me down, MattyCollector.com! If you sell out of this Masters of the Universe Classics Keldor figure before I can even press submit on your order page, *seven years* of frustration will be unleashed on you! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!*

The Search for Keldor is over. Yep, the conclusion to that mysterious minicomic from so many years ago is about to happen at Matty Collector. The special bonus quarterly figure for Q2 2010 is Miro’s indiscretion, Randor’s evil half-brother and He-Man’s nasty old uncle, the man that would be Skeletor, the Apprentice of Hordak (did we get all of the titles?), Keldor.

*Actually, I’ll probably just hit up ebay, but I’ll still be sad. 🙁

First Look – Ghostbusters Peter Venkman – TheFwoosh.com

In just over a week, you’ll get your chance to round out your set of 6-inch Ghostbusters when MattyCollector.com puts Peter Venkman up for sale. While it’s still decent, I think the Venkman head sculpt is the one that is most different from the actor’s likeness of the four Ghostbusters. It may be that Bill Murray has a tough face to render, or it could be that this is the slimed edition – perhaps they’ll get a little closer when they get around to releasing Venkman with the non-slimed head.

This Peter Venkman figure is watershed toy in a couple of ways. First, I really like the figure on its own merits – the likeness is good (though I think the un-slimed head shown at SDCC ‘09 was even better, can’t wait for that) and he is functional for some great scene recreation posing. However, as noted, we finally have all of the Ghostbusters together. Remember, 26 years and all that. So I think a lot of people will be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown.

First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics She-Ra – TheFwoosh.com

VeeBee kicks off the first of the Fwoosh First Looks at the upcoming MattyCollector.com figures with the Masters of the Universe Classics She-Ra. I think she’s a great looking figure and I’ll be glad to add her to my collection in June. My nitpick for the figure is that when I look at her head sculpt compared with Adora’s, I wouldn’t think, “Hey, Adora is She-Ra!” in the same way that I did many years ago with Prince Adam and He-Man.

With the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Prince Adam accessory, even though he’s got a different head sculpt than the various He-Man figures we’ve gotten in MOTUC, there’s still no mistaking that they are one and the same.

The gender gap that exists between the various Masters of the Universe is starting to close just a little bit. We have had the Most Powerful Man in the Universe in He-Man since the onset of the MOTUC line back in December of 2008 so finally, after a full 18 month wait, we can add the Most Powerful WOMAN in the Universe to our ranks and make old Hordak actually have to get off of his batty butt to to keep Etheria under his regime. Let’s take a look at He-Man’s little sister (only by a couple of minutes) to see how She-Ra’s figure stacks up.
