Hot Toys Reveals Captain America and Steve Rogers Figures from The Winter Soldier

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier opening in theaters tomorrow, Hot Toys has been on a tear to reveal their figure offerings from the Marvel tentpole. We’ve previously seen Cap in his “Golden Age” costume, an updated Black Widow, and the Winter Soldier himself. Today, they’ve revealed two figures – Cap in his Stealth S.T.R.I.K.E. Suit (based on the “Super Soldier” costume from the comics) and Steve Rogers in his civvies. This version of Cap is available solo or in a two-figure set with the plain clothes Rogers – which sadly for our wallets, is the only way to get an unhelmeted head on the new suit, at least for now.

Once you see the opening of the movie, you’ll be clamoring for the Super Soldier suit. I won’t say more, other than it’s a totally kick-ass sequence. No pre-orders up yet, but these will be up at Sideshow Collectibles soon, joining Golden Age Cap, Black Widow, and the Winter Soldier. At this point, I’m wondering if this is it, or if Hot Toys still has a Falcon up their sleeves. Hope so!

Sideshow’s Governator Wins April Fool’s Day

There’s always some entertaining gags on April Fool’s Day, but this one can bench press 440 lbs. While the Governator isn’t actually an official product (I’m sure there’ll be a few Ahhhnold fans who kitbash their own, though), Sideshow is actually giving away a life-sized Terminator Endoskeleton bust. Click through to the Governator contest page for your shot.

Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Jubilee, Rogue, and Hulkbuster Iron Man

More Marvel Legends in this week’s Border Patrol – two customs of figures that were put on hold when Hasbro’s plans for running change variants were shelved, and one that could be made leveraging an existing Build-a-Figure.

  • Marvel Legends Jubilee by Horton’s Heroes – Jubilee was supposed to be the Build-a-Figure for the first wave of Marvel Legends this year, but retailers opted for the movie-supported Captain America and Spider-Man lines – this is her classic costume, but the planned figure was in her more modern look, with the black suit underneath her trademark yellow trench coat – ends Apr 07, 2014 20:28:42 PDT
  • Marvel Legends Rogue by Babcsan – Rogue was to be the running change variant for Emma Frost in the Wolverine Legends line, but when that went exclusive to Diamond, Rogue and the Phoenix Five Cyclops were shelved – I think I see a little too much of Trish Stratus left in that head sculpt – ends Apr 05, 2014 12:06:35 PDT
  • Marvel Legends Hulkbuster Iron Man by Happy Day Customs – I haven’t found the second wave of Cap Legends to finish my Mandroid and Happy Day is customizing the BAF – argh! – if Hasbro didn’t already have this idea, it’s a decent one for a future BAF leveraging the Iron Monger / Mandroid body – ends this morning, Apr 01, 2014 09:11:36 PDT

Customizers, the submission deadline for CustomCon 37 is coming up on April 7.

Happy 75th Anniversary, Batman!

This weekend marked the 75th anniversary of Batman’s first appearance, in Detective Comics #27, way back in 1939. While there’s lots of interesting news stories about this auspicious event, one of the more fun ones I looked through was Comic Book Resources’ 75 Greatest Batman Covers, as voted on by their readers. The Neal Adams gatefold featured above came in at #43 on the list.

We also happen to have a few Batman comic book covers (and comics) courtesy of Bill’s Comics – these ones feature action figures of the Caped Crusader, and I think they match up pretty well with the drawn version with an artistry of their own. Bill’s cover above is from the start of a three parter, Batman: Curse of the Demon. If you like this one, be sure to check out all of Bill’s Batman comics, all of his comics featured here, and even more at Bill’s own site. Cheers!

Masters of the Universe Classics Club Eternia – Map of the Horde Empire Viewer

Each year when the Club Eternia exclusives ship, I publish one of the more popular posts on AFP – the map viewer for the Club Eternia exclusive map. This year, Mattel shipped the Map of Horde Empire with the very mysterious Unnamed One. I still don’t know what the Unnamed One looks like, because I’m away from home.

  • Position your mouse over areas of the map to magnify it.
  • To zoom in or out, scroll up or down with your mousewheel.

If I’m away, how did I get this map done? Big thanks again to my wife, who made this possible again this year. Enjoy exploring the Horde Empire, and be sure to visit our previous installments:
