Sideshow Shrine of Dagon Action Figure Environment

Shrine of Dagon (1200x1199).jpg

At a list price of $89.99, the Shrine of Dagon Action Figure Environment is not the kind of accessory that I’d normally buy – after all, it costs quite a bit more than the usual action figures that I’d choose to display with it. But after a visit to the Sideshow booth at San Diego Comic-Con, I found myself with a gift card (they hand them out cards with random amounts on them) worth $75.

I’d been looking for something like this ever since Sandman and MattK started raising the bar on their photo sets with intricate set pieces that make my plain background pictures look pretty dull. So for $15, this was a complete steal.

DC Direct September Solicitations

bday_group.jpg

Looks like DC Direct will leverage the year-long Brightest Day event in the comics in its action figure line-ups. Blackest Night produced eight series of figures – with these previews, Brightest Day is on its second series, due in comic book stores in April next year. I think we’ll see some pretty interesting character choices if we get to eight or more series in this line, and I’m really liking what we’ve seen thus far.

Transformers Animated Ironhide and Rodimus Minor

The Transformers Animated line, for all intents and purposes, ended several months ago. However, thankfully for for fans of the cartoon and the toy line, Toys R Us has kept the line going with several exclusive deluxe class figures, Rodimus Minor and Ironhide being the most recent releases. Both are hotly anticipated and must-haves to finish off the collection and could very well be the final offerings in the line.

Between upcoming figures in DC Universe Classics, the Green Lantern 5-Pack, and the Green Lantern Classics line (of which one series is still to be revealed), you may think Mattel has tapped out the GL franchise when it comes to comics-based figures. How wrong you would be!

In honor of the 75th Anniversary of DC Comics, we’ve compiled a list of what we consider the 75 top candidates for Green Lantern action figures, from classic to modern, and from humanoid to not even close to being from this planet – and a planet itself!

Your job is to pick the Top Ten characters you want made into action figures. Submit your vote for up to ten characters listed below. The poll will stay open through the end of August, and we’ll announce the results a couple of days later. Let’s convince Mattel to make Green Lantern Classics Waves 3 and 4!

You can discuss this Top Ten poll in this thread at the Fwoosh. Big thanks to WeaponXII and Piffy for compiling the character roster and pictures for the poll.

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Mezco Exclusive DC Universe Batman and Joker Mez-Itz 2-Pack

Sector1014 returns with a guest review of the SDCC 2010 Mez-Itz 2-Pack featuring Batman and the Joker. Previously, he highlighted the Funko Force 2 DC Universe vinyl figures, which we had missed at the show completely. And a while back, he wrote a great primer on the off-the-wall pick of Kamandi from DC Universe Classics wave 14. What do you think, should we ask him to be a regular here already?

Mezco Mez-Itz Batman Joker SDCC 2010

Ron has been following all the news about Mezco’s new DC line here on AFP since it was announced, and SDCC 2010 brought us our first batch of figs and a look at where the line is going. First out of the gate for the DC 6″ Mez-Itz is the con/web exclusive Batman/Joker two-pack. Both are in classic comic book designs, with Batman displayed in his blue/grey-with-yellow-oval-logo version, and the Joker wearing his trenchcoat (with hat, not pictured above).
