In just over a week, you’ll get your chance to round out your set of 6-inch Ghostbusters when MattyCollector.com puts Peter Venkman up for sale. While it’s still decent, I think the Venkman head sculpt is the one that is most different from the actor’s likeness of the four Ghostbusters. It may be that Bill Murray has a tough face to render, or it could be that this is the slimed edition – perhaps they’ll get a little closer when they get around to releasing Venkman with the non-slimed head.
This Peter Venkman figure is watershed toy in a couple of ways. First, I really like the figure on its own merits – the likeness is good (though I think the un-slimed head shown at SDCC ‘09 was even better, can’t wait for that) and he is functional for some great scene recreation posing. However, as noted, we finally have all of the Ghostbusters together. Remember, 26 years and all that. So I think a lot of people will be able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown.
VeeBee kicks off the first of the Fwoosh First Looks at the upcoming MattyCollector.com figures with the Masters of the Universe Classics She-Ra. I think she’s a great looking figure and I’ll be glad to add her to my collection in June. My nitpick for the figure is that when I look at her head sculpt compared with Adora’s, I wouldn’t think, “Hey, Adora is She-Ra!” in the same way that I did many years ago with Prince Adam and He-Man.
With the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Prince Adam accessory, even though he’s got a different head sculpt than the various He-Man figures we’ve gotten in MOTUC, there’s still no mistaking that they are one and the same.
The gender gap that exists between the various Masters of the Universe is starting to close just a little bit. We have had the Most Powerful Man in the Universe in He-Man since the onset of the MOTUC line back in December of 2008 so finally, after a full 18 month wait, we can add the Most Powerful WOMAN in the Universe to our ranks and make old Hordak actually have to get off of his batty butt to to keep Etheria under his regime. Let’s take a look at He-Man’s little sister (only by a couple of minutes) to see how She-Ra’s figure stacks up.
Warner Bros. Animation announced yesterday that they are launching a new animated series for ThunderCats in conjunction with Studio 4°C, to be aired on the Cartoon Network starting in 2011. In conjunction with that announcement, Bandai announced it had acquired the global master toy license.
The announcement states that the toys will cover both the new and classic shows. While Bandai is best known for their more kid-oriented properties, like Ben 10 and Power Rangers, I’m hoping this means we’ll see some product targeted at adult collectors too.
We’re probably jumping the gun, because there’s been no official announcement from them yet, but when Mezco announced they would be making Mez-Itz for the DC Universe, we had to go poking around – especially after they said they’d have an exclusive 2-pack with the Batman and Joker.
Here’s what we found. Awesome! (And stay tuned for official word, coming soon.)
