DC HeroClix Blackest Night Atom

The Blackest Night Starter Kit reveals return, with the Atom in his Blue Lantern deputy tribal outfit.  This is probably my least favorite of the deputy costumes, but the translucent effects look pretty spectacular.

The search for Ray Palmer is over. He’s in the DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game!

The Atom

A stalwart member of the Justice League, Ray Palmer’s life was torn apart when he discovered that his love Jean Loring was a murderer. Even after taking a pilgrimage into the multiverse in search of a new purpose, the Atom found he still felt empathy for Loring and all those who had brought evil upon the innocent. In the rise of the Blackest Night, the Atom’s rare compassion allowed him to join the Indigo Tribe and wield the power of their light.

The DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game will be in comic and hobby stores on May 12, 2010. The Starter Game includes everything you need to play HeroClix: seven HeroClix figures, the 2010 HeroClix Rulebook, a map (The Oan Sciencells) and more – reserve your copy at your local retailer!

New Avatar Figures?

While this may not be as Earth-shattering as new figures from DC Universe Classics, Marvel Universe, and Iron Man, Toyfare #152 is also set to give us our first look at new Avatar figures.

No, we’re not talking about more 10-foot tall blue-skinned Avatars from the James Cameron flick – this refers to The Last Airbender, the live action film by M. Night Shyamalan based on the animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.  Some of you may remember the action figure line by Mattel (who coincidentally has the license for James Cameron’s Avatar).  For the movie, however, it’s Spin Master that was awarded the license last summer, and will be producing a line of 3.75-inch figures.

Toyfare #152, on sale this Wednesday, reveals the first wave of figures:

  • Aang with Momo and staff
  • Aang with glider
  • Sokka with boomerang
  • Prince Zuko with broadsword
  • Blue Spirit (no spoilers!) with dual broadswords

Will Avatar fans finally get a Katara figure?  The jury’s still out.

Major League Baseball Playmakers Packaged Pics

With pre-orders available at $7.99 (at Entertainment Earth) to $14.99 per figure, these articulated 4-inch figures should come in a few bucks below their static big brothers when they’re widely available.  However, I can’t help thinking that for a buck or two more, McFarlane could have done collectors a solid and packed in interchangeable hands and head, so you could have a batter and fielder in one package instead of two.  I think they’d have better sell-through that way.

Brand New Action Figures Hitting Stores in March

McFarlane Toys is on deck and ready to knock it out of the park with full in-packaging photography of the highly anticipated MLB PlayMakers action figures line.

PlayMakers is a completely new McFarlane Toys product based on our existing sports licenses. These new action figures include the high level of detail McFarlane Toys is known for in a newly developed 4-inch scale figure. The addition of tremendous articulation, more than 20 moving parts, allows for complete playability and enables consumers to recreate countless action poses of their favorite sports hero. Plus, we’ve got the inning covered from top to bottom, as most players will be available in both a batting and a fielding version!

Here is a look at the entire Series 1 of MLB PlayMakers:

Toyfare 152 to Feature New DC Universe Classics, Marvel Universe, and Iron Man Figures

Toyfare #152 is the last issue to hit the stands before Toy Fair.  As such, Mattel and Hasbro have saved up some of their big reveals for the issue, which is due in comic book stores next Wednesday.  For those of you who can’t wait, a subscriber who received his issue early has given me some early intel of what’s between the covers.

DC Universe Classics – as they promised, Mattel has revealed an upcoming wave of figures.

DC Universe Classics – Obsidian, Zatanna, Hourman, Gold, Alan Scott, Tyr, Ultra-Humanite, and Kamandi

I won’t be posting scans of Toyfare – c’mon – just pick up your own copy! 🙂 – but I have picked images that reflect what was described to me.  With Obsidian, the Rex Tyler version of Hourman, and the Alan Scott Green Lantern, we’ve got some more Justice Society of America goodness coming our way, and fans of the classics will be glad to get Rex instead of Rick for Hourman.  I think a lot of fans will be pleased that Zatanna is in her top hat, tails, and stockings, but I’m concerned about getting a repeat of Black Canary’s legs.

Gold continues the Metal Men, Kamandi brings us a Toy Guru favorite, and Tyr continues the unofficial Super Powers theme for this year.  And, what can you say about a C&C Ultra-Humanite?  Giant gorillas are awesome.

[Update – Mattel has confirmed that this will be a Wal-Mart exclusive wave.  If it follows the pattern from the past Wal-Mart exclusives, the wave should not have any variant or chase figures.]

DC HeroClix The Brave and The Bold Update

The HeroClix team skipped the Blackest Night Starter Kit update today, but they did post a huge update for The Brave and the Bold.  These figures, which will be available in April, look to be traditionally sculpted.  They really highlight the differences in detail from a digitally sculpted figure, like Blackest Night.
