San Diego Comic-Con Hasbro Marvel Pics

It’s late (I forgot that I shouldn’t wait in lines on Preview Night – thank you for reminding me, Mattel!), so I’ll be brief with my comments.  Hasbro’s Marvel display had a lot to be excited about.

Update: Added the ML 2-Packs and and a few more pictures in most categories.

Marvel Legends 2-Packs – If the current wave of 2-packs sells, we should see white Ninja / Dum Dum Dugan, Sharon Carter / Stealth Iron Man, and Invisible Woman / Human Torch 2-packs hitting retail.

Marvel Legends Fan Choice – Wow.  Eclectic choices.  Good looking figures that leverage lots of existing parts.  This will be a tough vote for the Fan Choice poll.

Marvel Select Thing – Early Sculpt from Art Asylum

Art Asylum has blogged about their work on a Thing for Marvel Select.  People have said that they thought this figure was canceled, but I haven’t heard one way or another.

My big pet peeve with the Things we’ve gotten in Marvel Legends (and Universe) is that they’re too tall.  Sure, he’s bulky, but he’s not as tall as Reed.  So this is a beautiful sculpt, but at Select scale I’m guessing it’ll be much too big to be compatible with my Legends collection.

Thank you Thing

This is way early in the development stage, but the Marvel Select Thing is coming along so beautifully that I just couldn’t resist sharing a look with you. Enjoy.

Marvel Digital Comics San Diego Comic-Con Offer

marvel-digital-comics-sdcc-offerIf you picked up a subscription to Marvel Digital Comics and are on your way to the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel has posted a special offer just for you.

You can stop by Marvel’s booth for:

  • A limited edition Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth spotlight variant
  • A chance to pick up Stan Lee’s autograph

More details in the attached image.

Like many Marvel Universe fans, I signed up for a subscription just so I could pick up a Marvel Universe Nick Fury exclusive figure. I have not yet received the figure, but from pictures I’ve seen from the Far East (where the figure was released at retail), I think it’ll be a good reuse of the Daredevil / Bullseye figure that was part of Marvel Universe wave 1.

As far as Marvel Digital Comics are concerned, I like the reading experience.  In particular, the web-based reader’s Smart Panels feature is pretty good when applied properly – it zooms into the comic, panel by panel, to give you a very detailed look at a page.  This hasn’t replaced the need for me to get my weekly comic fix, though, as the library isn’t intended to deliver newly published comics.  The back issue catalog is filling out, but there have been times when I’ve wanted to read an random comic arc only to find issues missing.  I’ll let you know if I renew when the three month trial is up.

You’ll be able to get details on a subscription and the Nick Fury figure at the Marvel booth, or head to marvel.com/nickfury.

Mattel’s San Diego Comic-Con Booth – Construction Pics

Are you psyched for San Diego Comic-Con?  The show may be starting tomorrow, but for our favorite toy companies, the start of this week was really the culmination of months of planning.

Mattel whets our appetites with a peek into the final stages of preparation for Comic-Con with some pictures of the construction of their booth on the San Diego Convention Center floor.  Here’s a couple of pics from their album.  Look, Castle Grayskull!  And what’s the LucasFilm tie-in?

Hot Toys Secures Marvel Movie Masterpiece License

Gotta how the internet connects and informs people.  This news comes via TheFwoosh.com -> HotToysFan.com -> EddieWong.net.  And what big news it is.

Hot Toys has picked up the movie licensing for Marvel, and from the announcement it appears they’ve got movies past and present.  Want a 1/6 scale Halle Berry Storm to go with the upcoming Hot Toys X-Men Origins Wolvie?  Yeah, ok, I know she wasn’t all that great.  How about a Hannibal King from Blade 3?  Well, it’s all possible now.

Yes, that is right folks. Hot Toys has the license to the Marvel Universe. And the pic above is the announcement teaser from HT’s official catalog.

For those who cannot read Japanese, here’s what the page says:

Left-side: Movie Masterpiece. Starting soon.

Right-side: Blade trilogy, X-Men trilogy, Spider-Man trilogy, & more…

Yes, Movie Masterpiece. Not the comic versions. This means, for those who have longed for a good ‘movie Spidey’ 1/6th figure, you’re about to get one. And it’s the trilogy they’re doing which means you’ll not only get Spidey, but probably also the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Venom, and Sandman to say the least!

And, you’ve got to check out the pictures Eddie has of Hot Toys stuff at the International Tokyo Toy Show.  Fantastic pics!  Here’s a very small sampling of the low res shots.
