Mattel DC Unlimited “Red Rain” Batman and New 52 Darkseid Pics at Hero Complex

The pre-Toy Fair previews keep coming, with Mattel revealing an Elseworlds vampire Batman and the New 52 Darkseid from the DC Unlimited line via the LA Times Hero Complex site. I’m not too keen on picking up a vampire Batman if Mattel has no plans for his nemesis, Dracula – and I doubt they do. And I can’t help thinking that Darkseid’s lower half got hit by some sort of shrinking ray the Atom whipped up.

Looks like character selection will continue to be limited. With DC Universe Classics scaled back, Mattel’s retail pattern for its Unlimited lines is still holding to either New 52 characters or Batman or Superman.

The Hero Complex also had the Man of Steel Movie Masters Jor-El that we got a look at yesterday.

The Vampire Batman figure is based on the Batman vampire trilogy (1991′s “Batman and Dracula: Red Rain,” 1994′s “Batman: Bloodstorm” and 1998′s “Batman: Crimson Mist”) from the DC Comics imprint Elseworlds. In the trilogy, by Doug Moench and Kelley Jones, Batman becomes a vampire in order to face Dracula.

All four figures are priced at $14.99 and slated to hit shelves this spring for toy fair season, including the Nuremberg Toy Fair, which runs Jan. 30 through Feb. 4, and the New York Toy Fair, which runs Feb. 10-13.

Mattel Man of Steel Movie Masters Pics Hit the Web

Man of Steel - Movie Masters - Superman Man of Steel - Movie Masters - Jor-El Man of Steel - Movie Masters - Zod

Looks like the Toy Fair can’t get here quick enough – pictures of Mattel’s Movie Masters line-up for the upcoming Man of Steel are out in force. The Superman reboot hits theaters June 14, which means toys should hit shelves in the March / April timeframe. The sculpts look nicely detailed and the likenesses are good, I think especially so in the case of Russell Crowe’s Jor-El – but Supes and Zod look pretty good too. I will miss the ab crunch for those much needed flying poses, especially if Mattel stays consistent with its current neck articulation setup, which allows for no up or down movement.

We’ll get a closer look at Mattel’s press event at Toy Fair in a couple weekends.

Enterprising Fwooshers found these images, referencing Variety (WB toying with Superman merchandise) and USAToday.com (General Zod stars in ‘Man of Steel’ tie-in toys). Nice work, guys!

Hasbro Shares Official Star Wars Black Series Product Description and Images

Were those pics from yesterday’s USAToday.com announcement of the 6-inch Star Wars line just a little too small for your liking? Here’s the official Hasbro images (they are ginormous – just click) and product description.

Is it too early to start the rallying cry for vehicles to accompany these figures? We can’t just let Luke in his pilot gear go without an X-Wing to fly, can we? R2-D2 is in the first wave too, and he needs a ship for astro-mech repairs, right? Are you with me?

Hasbro Star Wars 6-Inch a Reality – Announces Black Series on USAToday.com

a4301000_6in_luke_package_final-copy-3_4_r536_c534Yes, the rumors of 6-inch Star Wars figures are true, and it looks like Hasbro has given the nod to Gentle Giant.

I thought we would have to wait for Toy Fair in a couple of weeks for confirmation, but Hasbro announced the Star Wars Black Series on USAToday.com. While the article says that the line will focus on the original trilogy, the first wave of four figures will include Episode 1 baddie, Darth Maul. Rounding out the first wave due in August are X-Wing Luke (shown at the right), R2-D2, and an Imperial Sandtrooper, with a planned retail price of $19.99 each. Hasbro is planning a second wave of four figures before the end of the year.

Although Hasbro referenced Marvel Legends, it does not look like the Black Series will incorporate the Build-A-Figure concept. Could you imagine a 6-inch scaled Rancor?

I’m sure there will be lots more questions, but at top of mind for me right now are these two. First, with the line launching so close to San Diego Comic-Con, will we see an SDCC exclusive to really kick this line off? And second, Hasbro always announces a huge vehicle at Toy Fair – could it be something in the 6-inch scale this time around?
