SDCC 2012: Square Enix Play Arts Kai Dominates Video Game Action Figures

Square Enix is totally killing it when it comes to action figures for video games. With licenses for Halo, Metal Gear Solid, Mass Effect 3, Tekken, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Tomb Raider, Hitman, Kingdom Hearts, Arkham Asylum, and more, they’re marking their territory for super-articulated, 8-inch scale premium figures.

But watch out – they’re also making the move from the little screen to the big one. It was a natural jump from properties like Bayonetta to Cowboy Bebop, but they also teased the license for Superman: Man of Steel. It seems a more daunting task to take on the likeness of a real person than a computer generated image. I can’t wait to see what they do with it.

SDCC 2012: Hasbro Marvel Legends Hyperion and Wave 3 Update

Hasbro added Hyperion to its Marvel Legends display for wave 1 in 2013. Hyperion (who will be a swapout with Sentry a la Thunderball and Piledriver) is built on a new base body that falls between the Nick Fury / Ka-Zar / Punisher body and Warpath / Thunderball / Piledriver body types. That will fill in a medium heavy build in the lineup that can be reused for guys like Luke Cage. In the same vein, the Red She-Hulk is on a new base body for the larger female characters, like Titania.

SDCC 2012: Hot Toys Batman, Expendables, Metal Gear Solid, and Avengers

Hot Toys (3) (1280x853).jpg

Ready to get your mind blown? Hot Toys (via Sideshow Toys) had a number of 1/6 scale Batman vehicles on display, including the classic Batmobile from the 60’s show. I also snapped pics of a couple of Barney Ross figures from the Expendables, Metal Gear Solid, Batman, and Avengers figures.

SDCC 2012: The Bridge Direct – The Hobbit

The Hobbit (1280x853).jpg

There hasn’t exactly been a lot of previews of the Hobbit action figures from The Bridge Direct, so I was happy to find that Bridge had their own corner of the Hobbit booth nearby some of the other Hobbit collectibles. VeeBee and Sandman are big fans of the Lord of the Rings toys from Toy Biz, so they were really excited to get to see some of the new stuff first hand. You can see VeeBee’s Hobbit pics at the Fwoosh.

Bridge mostly had the 3.75-inch figures on display, as that will be the bread and butter. But they also had the three 6-inch figures they previewed shortly before SDCC – Bilbo, Thorin Oakenshield, and Gandalf.
