Marvel Select Juggernaut Production Pics

Wow. If the Marvel Select Juggernaut isn’t an argument for what digital sculpting can achieve in the hands of skilled sculptors, I don’t know what is.

I know that Gentle Giant has done work the Marvel Select line before – the best example from recent history is the Marvel Select Modern Thor, my pick for best figure of 2008 – but they’ve really gone above and beyond here. Just check out that detail!

Nothing Can Stop Him

Hold on.  Why do they always say that about the Juggernaut?  I mean, am I wrong or do they not find a way to stop him EVERY TIME?  Seems to me he gets stopped on a regular basis.  Oh well, who cares as long as he romps and stomps right up until the stoppage?  Whether he’s on the side of evil or good, everyone loves to see Cain Marko destroy anything in his path.  Our good friends at Gentle Giant have been itching to see Juggy added to the Marvel Select line, especially if they got to do the sculpting, so here you go.  Colors are brought to you by Eddie Wires…

Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Wave 2 Carded Pics

Mattel has posted some carded images of the second wave of its Retro-Action DC Super Heroes line. I can’t remember the last time an action figure line got a pink card – if there ever was a time that happened. Odd choice, right?

Turns out the participants were just delivering lines for use in a stop-motion video using DC action figures called “Shelf Life.” How that dialogue is going to be used is yet to be seen, but one of the creators, Fwoosher TheGDBatman, has posted a neat-looking video teaser for his project.

Hot Toys Prince of Persia Dastan 10.jpg

Let’s hope for Hot Toys that their upcoming Movie Masterpiece for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Prince Dastan from the Prince of Persia movie does better than its 6-inch and 3.75-inch counterparts from McFarlane Toys. Those Prince of Persia action figures have already seen sustained discounting at Toys R Us. At first I thought it was promotional, but I’m wondering if the relatively weak domestic performance of the movie has had an impact on figure sales.

As you might expect, the costuming and accessories are outstanding on this Hot Toys release, but I find that the head sculpt is not quite up to their regular standards. It’s only vaguely evocative of Gyllenhaal from certain angles.

Mattel Ghostbusters Peter Venkman Quick Pics

Ghostbusters Peter Venkman - with Egon, Ray, and Winston (1200x900).jpg

With the MattyCollector.com sale this month, fans had the opportunity to complete their 6-inch collections of the four core Ghostbusters with Peter Venkman. It’s been a long wait since Egon Spengler first became available at San Diego Comic-Con last year and we saw production samples of Venkman at C2E2.
