AFP Hasbro Transformers Q&A for 4/1/10

Thanks to the Hasbro Transformers team for this round of Q&A!

1) The upcoming Masterpiece Grimlock is going to include the crown, which was an exclusive accessory, but not the apron and drink tray that came with the standard Takara release. Why is this?

Overall, we decided to not make our version completely identical to the version that Takara had previously released. The team wanted to create our own unique version by revising the deco and adding in new accessories including the sword, missile launcher and crown. Although the apron and drink tray are cool accessories, we felt that all of the new pieces would really help make this a unique and differentiated item.

2) Does the “Human Alliance” concept begin and end with the movie line? I know a lot of collectors would love to see this idea opened up to include G1 characters, if not the whole gamut.

In the current Human Alliance concept it does begin and end with the movie line. While there have been human characters throughout the TF lore, the movies have just taken this Transformers/human interaction to the next level and makes a lot of sense to celebrate. It is not to say that we won’t ever take this concept outside of the movie line, but the it just does not make sense at this point in time.

AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 4/1/10

Please find below the bi-monthly answers to your “Ask Mattel” questions.  Scott is currently out of the office but asked us to provide answers on his behalf.  We know he is the “Toy Guru” and an expert on all things Matty Collector so to keep the same quality of answers you’re readers are used to, we consulted with an answer expert – please go ahead and post these as the official Mattel answers.  You can go ahead and forward your April 15th questions to Scott directly.

Sometimes, I don’t know why we bother with these Q&A sessions. All we ever get are these non-answers, session after session after session. And even though we are getting our answers from someone else this go around, it’s just more of the same.

1. This may be a little early, but Raven is on my mind with Collect & Connect Trigon coming soon. Is Mattel planning to do another Fan’s Choice for DC Universe Classics in conjunction with Toyfare this year? And with respect to runner-ups from the prior votes, are any of those characters on the table for the upcoming year?

threeA Toys WWRp mk2 Euro Bramble Pouches

WWRP MK2 Euro Bramble - Pouches (1200x901).jpg

Many thanks to those of you who let me know that 3A Toys was sending out pouches that were inadvertently left out of the WWRP MK2 Euro Brambles. I contacted the folks from whom I picked up the Merc and Euro Brambles and they were great about sending out the pouches that they just recently got.

They come in a sealed plastic bag, and at first I thought the color scheme was a bit darker than the holsters that originally came with the Euro. But I was wrong – they match perfectly, and they also feel a little less gritty than the pouches that came with the Merc.

I hope to have some Berties to take pictures of soon. Stay tuned!

WonderCon Exclusive DC Direct Hal Jordan and Sinestro from Graphitti Designs

Do you remember the “Rainbow” Hal Jordan set from last year’s San Diego Comic-Con? It was a DC Direct exclusive set of five Hal Jordans, sold at SDCC by Graphitti Designs. At WonderCon (this weekend), they’ll have a new set, this time with Hal as a Black Lantern and Sinestro as the White Lantern – sorry for the spoiler!

At SDCC, the sale was somewhat of a nightmare, because you had to wait in line each day, often multiple times a day, because only a single new figure was offered on each day. You had to be a lucky bastard and put in the work to reap the rewards. At least with this set of two figures, you can pick both up in one shot.

AFP Hasbro G.I. JOE Q&A Round-Up for 3/30/10

Hasbro is conducting the G.I. Joe Q&As a little differently now, and we’re still trying to figure it out. We get to submit three questions, and then they send us answers to one or more of them (we got two answered and Fwoosh got one). After a few days, they send us the questions and answers from all the sites.

We expected to get the answer to our unanswered questions (we asked about Matt Trakker), but that wasn’t included in the full list, so maybe the round-up only includes the answered questions. Confused? We are too. In any case, here’s the AFP questions again, followed by the questions and answers from the other sites.

1) We’re psyched to get two new Sgt. Slaughters at San Diego Comic-Con, but you’ve whetted our appetites for more classicly-styled figures. Will the Pursuit of Cobra figures incorporate any classic-styled designs, or will figures be styled only according to the four different environment themes?

Thanks, we’re glad the fan response has been so positive for the Sgt. Slaughter exclusives! The Pursuit of Cobra will focus on the four environment themes but we will try and sneak in some classic elements. We can reveal more at JoeCon!
