First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics Battle Cat

Battle Cat 1.JPG

Fwoosher SCB was lucky enough to get through the ordering hassles on MattyCollector.com last Tuesday.  Since he lives in Southern California, he’s one of the first to get his hands on the Masters of the Universe Classics Battle Cat – he kindly shared his pictures and thoughts with us. Big thanks to SCB!

Fwoosh Staff Review – DC Universe Classics Series 12 – TheFwoosh.com

The Fwoosh staff reviews are always fun.  Here’s my take on Eclipso (VeeBee kindly supplied the pics, since I was away covering Toy Fair), and be sure to check out the rest of the gang’s take on DC Universe Classics Wave 12.  And stay tuned, Buzzy Fret is going to have his review of Wave 12 right here on AFP pretty soon too.

Eclipso

When Mattel first released press shots of Eclipso, I had a pretty strong reaction – I didn’t like his head sculpt. My first impressions were that his grin was just too big. Now that I have the actual figure in my hands, I’ve dialed back the dislike most of the way – it helps to see it from multiple angles, and I can buy that there’s a physical manifestation (aside from the eclipsed coloring) of the evil within him.

This is the Bruce Gordon version of Eclipso – and while DCUC has offered a pretty good mix of classic and modern renditions of characters, I think most people wanted Gordon over the modern incarnations of Alex Montez or Jean Loring. The costume is recreated faithfully, although some might prefer the coloring of his collar and leggings to match his boots, gloves, and elfin cap. I’ve seen it depicted both ways, so I guess Mattel opted for variation in the colors to make it more visually interesting.

If I could make some changes (other than the size of the grin), I’d change his hands. The black diamond in his left hand comes off a little soft, so I would have opted to make it a little bigger so that I could get some crisp facets there. I’d also like the gem to be just a little bit more translucent. And, his right hand? It needs a fist, because as Jersey Shore has taught us, nothing is quite as menacing as a fist pump.

Masters of the Universe Classics Trap Jaw Quick Pics

I hope you’ll forgive the makeshift photo setup.  Mattel was kind enough to give Masters of the Universe Classics figures to people who attended their collector event – I was lucky enough to get Trap Jaw.  We’re heading back home tomorrow, but my wife wanted to minimize the amount of stuff we are going to have to pack up – so since I was planning to open up Trap Jaw anyways, you’re getting the pics I could manage now instead of a few days from now.

Hot Toys MMS The Dark Knight Two-Face

Hot Toys Two Face (1200x899).jpg

I keep sliding down that slippery slope of high end collectibles.  I knew after I got the Hot Toys DX MMS Joker that I’d end up getting more from The Dark Knight line.  I already have a DX MMS Batman on pre-order, but had to go back to pick up a Harvey Dent / Two-Face.  As great as these figures are, I’ve still got some sticker shock, since I’m used to buying figures in the $10 – $15 range – but luckily I found some good deals on the Hot Toys MMS Two-Face on eBay.  After opening him up, I’d have been just as happy paying retail.

NECA BioShock 2 Big Sister and Little Sister Two-Pack

DSCN3583.JPG

With the upcoming release of BioShock 2 this Tuesday, February 9th, let’s have a look at NECA’s BioShock 2: Big Sister and Little Sister 2-pack. Now I have to admit I never played the first game (I plan to though!), so I have no idea what BioShock’s story is, but when I saw these at my local Toys R’ Us, I couldn’t resist and I decided to pick this set up. The character designs just look too awesome to ignore! I was also curious about the articulation and I was hoping they weren’t going to be statues. I loved what NECA had done with Street Fighter and Ninja Gaiden’s Ryu Hayabusa in regards to articulation, and I was hoping they did the same to these figures.
