Hot Toys Hypes the Guardians of the Galaxy Leading into SDCC 2014

Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket and Groot Set 1

We’ve been relaxing before the madness of San Diego Comic-Con (we’re on our way down south shortly), but I couldn’t leave without posting some awesome updates from Hot Toys with my most anticipated movie for this summer – Guardians of the Galaxy. The Guardians of the Galaxy movie premiere was this past Monday, and while I intentionally haven’t read a lot about it, I’ve heard the press screenings have been very well received. Hype building… too much!

On the other hand, I’ve not gotten enough of the press pics of the upcoming Hot Toys figures for Guardians. A few days back, Hot Toys posted pics for three pre-orders – Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and a special 2-pack set with Rocket and Groot – all available at Sideshow Toys. I’ll do my best to resist the 2-pack, which comes with an alternate angry head sculpt for Groot. “Hroom, hm, come, my friends. The Ents are going to war.” I meant, “I am Groot!”

And to top it off, they also teased Star-Lord, who should be present at the Sideshow booth at SDCC 2014. I hope Gamora and Drax show up too. Read on for more of Rocket, Groot, and Star-Lord, and come back tonight for Preview Night coverage!

Boss Fight Studio’s Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. is the Most-Funded Action Figure Kickstarter, and They’re Not Done Yet

Last night, Boss Fight Studio’s Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Kickstarter project surpassed $315K funding, achieving two big milestones. First, the project unlocked all the original stretch goals for the project, including a fully-articulated skeleton figure and a unique Spartan, Stonefist the Gorgon Hunter. And second, the project became the most-funded action figure project in Kickstarter history – no small feat, considering the biggest one to date had been last year’s Four Horsemen’s Gothitropolis Ravens campaign.

To keep up the momentum, Boss Fight added four more stretch goals, and then another three when those started to be unlocked. If all stretch targets are met, there will be three more skeleton color variants, three variant accessory packs, and a unique Amazon. Of course, that’s another $50K to cover to hit the $400K mark – but with that $500 All-In reward getting better and better, would you be surprised if they made it?

Funding for Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. closes at 7:52PM PDT tonight.

Bandai S.H.Figuarts Makes Batman and Joker from Injustice Look Awesome

Remember when Mattel started adding figures from Injustice to their Batman and DC Unlimited lines (the “successors” to DC Universe Classics)? As the figures arrived on shelves, I remember thinking how awful the costume designs were. Having never played the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game, maybe my opinion was uninformed. And now, these upcoming Batman and Joker figures from Bandai in their S.H. Figuarts line, I’m loving the Injustice looks.

Maybe it’s just the execution that counts. The Mattel figures looked horrible and stiff – these look gorgeous and look like they’ll move even better. Granted, the Batman design is for an alternate Injustice costume. And Mattel’s price was under $20, while these are listed at nearly $60 – more than the price I usually see for Figuarts. Still, when the pre-orders show up, I’ll be hard-pressed to resist. These are slated to arrive in December.

Kickstarter Monday: Legends of Cthulhu and Vitruvian HACKS Ending This Week; Four Horsemen Show Ravens Paint Samples

Lots of excitement for action figure fans in this Kickstarter update. Two funding campaigns are closing this week – Warpo’s Legends of Cthulhu ends on Wednesday, July 9, and Boss Fight Studio’s Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S.  ends Friday, July 11. Both are already funded and will proceed. Now it’s just a question of how many stretch goals each will unlock before the closing bell.

Meanwhile, the Four Horsemen provided four massive updates on their Gothitropolis Ravens project, which was funded back in August last year – 55 pics of paint samples from the factory.

Warpo Toys Reveal Lovecraft and Giant Cthulhu Stretch Goals for Legends of Cthulhu Kickstarter

With two weeks remaining on their already-funded Legends of Cthulhu Retro Figures Kickstarter campaign, Warpo Toys has already received $100K in pledges, unlocking a translucent “conjured” Cthulhu and a high priest (a paint variant of the cultist) via two stretch goals. Now the fledgling toy makers have unveiled the two stretch goals that have yet to be achieved.

As Warpo shared with IGN, the remaining two stretch goals are H.P. Lovecraft himself (a head sculpt and paint variant of the Professor) unlocked at $140K pledges, and a 12-inch “Great Old One” version of Cthulhu unlocked at $200K. They’ve already said that the latter would be an add-on purchase, but if the pattern with the previous stretch goals holds, Lovecraft may be a free add-on to anyone pledging at the $90 level or up.

Warpo is asking fans to comment on the IGN article and to share the project via social media. Cthulhu commands it!
