Mattel DC Unlimited Series 3 Continues with New 52 and Injustice: Gods Among Us

While there has been no official announcement from Mattel, BigBadToyStore has put up pre-orders for the 3rd series of the DC Unlimited line. No big surprises here – we’re going to be getting more of the New 52 designs with Aquaman and Darkseid and more from the Injustice: Gods Among Us video game with Superman and the Joker. From New 52 we’ve already seen Batman and Superman and are waiting on Flash, Wonder Woman, and Hawkman to hit shelves. And from Injustice we’re waiting on Batman from the Batman Unlimited line.

I find the marketing of Mattel’s retail offerings a bit puzzling. I’d think they’d get more pop by putting out an Injustice line separate from their comic offerings. If the game is a hit and spawns a franchise, then they can milk the line the way DC Collectibles has with Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. And if not, at least they’d be able to piggyback on the marketing for the game when it hits next year.

The focus on New 52 is expected but still disappointing to me, in that I’d like it better if Mattel and DC Collectibles could find a way to release complementary products instead of rehashing the same characters and costumes again and again. And sadly for Mattel, DCC has been able to release more New 52 characters sooner (see also Blackest Night and Arkham Asylum / City), rendering the quarterly release schedule of a couple figures here and there somewhat limp.

ThreeA Toys Ma.K Krote on Sale 11/29

At the end of this month, 3A Toys is launching a new line of mech figures in the 1/12 scale, with the Krote bi-pedal tank from Ma.K. (I had no idea that) Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000 (Ma.K for short) is a sci-fi series by Kow Yokoyama that started in the early 80s as SF3D and resurfaced in the 90s as Ma.K after resolution of a copyright dispute.

In short, Ma.K is about a post-apocalyptic Earth. After a nuclear World War IV has devastated the planet, colonists are sent to repopulate. A struggle for control ensues, and two factions, the Strahl Democratic Republic (SDR) and the Independent Mercenary Army (IMA), battle for the planet using battle suits and vehicles that draw inspiration from everything from World War I to Star Wars. The parallels with Ashley Wood’s own World War Robot makes clear why this is a fit for 3A Toys.

Hot Toys Avengers Agent Phil Coulson Preview

The Marvel Studios movies have been a powerhouse for Hot Toys. While the movies from the other studios have yielded one or two figures each, between Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and now the Avengers, there’s an army of figures.

Coulson (how cool is it that he comes with his Cap trading cards?) and Maria Hill (not yet immortalized by Hot Toys) were the ones I thought we’d never see. Now I think the last guy to get a figure might be the SHIELD Agent caught playing Galaga.

The Avengers: Agent Phil Coulson is coming soon!

The Avengers fans, Mr Clark Gregg, actor of the Agent Phil Coulson character in The Avengers movie, has just unveiled his movie-accurate Hot Toys’ collectible figure on his Twitter – https://twitter.com/clarkgregg. Here you go the photos preview! Please stay tuned with us for update soon!

Maxiworks Collectibles Store and ThreeA Toys MGS REX

I am in the Philippines spending time with my parents, and have been suffering a bit from toy withdrawal. But today by chance I happened upon Maxiworks in the Power Plant Mall in Makati, one of the retail locations of Maxicollector Toys & Collectibles. They’re an official distributor of Sideshow Collectibles, Hot Toys, Enterbay, Toynami, Efx Collectibles, Gentle Giant, Funko and more. The store is bursting at the seams with statues, busts including life-sized ones from Marvel and Predators, and tons of 1/6 figures.

MattyCollector Doubles Up on Masters of the Universe and DC Universe Classics Again on 11/15

I guess our old friend, Logistics, has struck again, because just like last month, we’ve got double helpings of both Masters of the Universe Classics and DC Universe Classics again this month. For Club Eternia, it’s the Filmation Randor and Dekker, with a bonus of Castle Grayskull Man wrapping up the 30th Anniversary sub. For Club Infinite Earths, it’s Uncle Sam and Constantine.

Is it just me, or is this month’s offerings lacking a big hitter? Rounding out the lineup is the final Ghostbusters offering, Courtroom Ray, who makes for a pretty tame send-off for the line that I think most people hoped would deliver more; and a (final?) JLU 3-pack.

Maybe Matty should have extended the Castle Grayskull (congrats, folks!) pre-order minimum cut-off to today – at least there’d be some excitement. Here’s the bundle page for 11/15 for your convenience.
