Jedd-the-Jedi was onsite for us today at the Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention’s Press Preview Day, and has sent us some pics!

These are the photos from the press preview today. Most of them are of the three Hot Toys figures. There’s a photo of the exclusive Thundercats Lion-O (Mumm Ra version) as well, and of ZC World’s Vinyl Collectible Astro Boy. Today’s line-up of toys and collectibles is just a teeny tiny sampling of what will be on the show floor when the convention proper takes place over the weekend.

Comic book artist Leinil Yu happens to be a big fan of Hot Toys figures, the first one he bought being an Iron Man 2 War Machine. He told me that he’s thinking of using them as reference material, drawing portraits based on the figures, and was surprised at how articulated the Sucker Punch Baby Doll figure was – you can cock the hip!

Stay tuned for updates from Jedd at STGCC over the next few days.

Square Enix Play Arts Kai Batman: Arkham Asylum – Experimenting with Spot Lights to Create Dramatic Lens Flare

I mentioned that I wanted to experiment with lens flare for drama when I posted the quick fixes for common lighting problems yesterday. Here is my first no-planning-involved attempt, using the Square Enix Play Arts Kai Batman (who is totally awesome, if you actually need me to tell you that). I’ve intentionally set up one of my LED book lights in the shot, knowing that the bright light shining directly into my camera lens will cause lens flare artifacts.

Hot Toys Reveals The Dark Knight Rises: Selina Kyle / Catwoman

Sadly, my wish for Selina Kyle in an alternate French maid’s costume has not come to pass, but that won’t stop me from jumping on this upcoming Hot Toys release, rooted hair and all. She’s somewhat low on the accessories (no, she doesn’t come with the Tumbler!) but hopefully that will give my wallet a break from all the Hot Toys suffering it’s endured recently. I am not sure if I recall this correctly, but I thought she was to come with a gun that would attach to the Tumbler – but no sign of that in the pics or the write-up from Hot Toys.

Not yet showing up in a search for Catoman Selina Kyle at Sideshow Toys, but I expect her to be added shortly.

Square Enix Play Arts Kai Batman: Arkham Asylum – How to Fix Some Common Lighting Problems

Arkham Asylum 2.jpg

My setup time for pictures is usually pretty quick, because I find it more efficient to start snapping and correct on the go, than trying to get it perfect right off the bat. With this before and after shot of the Square Enix Play Arts Kai Arkham Asylum figures (they are really awesome, by the way), I’ll highlight some lighting issues you might come across and give you some quick and easy solutions for them.

Entertainment Earth’s Summer Clearance Event Features Good Deals on DC Universe Classics and More

image

Entertainment Earth is holding their annual Summer Clearance event, and they’ve got over a hundred action figure deals to choose from.

There’s a fair number of DC Universe Classics on the list, many for $6.20. Dr. Impossible shows up for $3.70, which may be a good deal for customizers looking for a blank body with a fairly flexible cape. Happy Shopping!
