WizKids / NECA Announces Star Trek HeroClix

Two things are interesting to me about the announcement of Star Trek HeroClix. First, they talk about a digital component – I am not quite sure what that means, but if it means an online aspect to the game, that’d be pretty cool.

The second is something not stated in the release, but definitely something to watch for – if the line takes off, I’m wondering if we’ll get collosal game pieces for the Enterprise and other ships, like the Romulan Warbird or the Klingon Bird of Prey.

Mattel Official Announcement of Voltron License

We posted about the new Voltron show on Nicktoons and toy license for Mattel a couple of days ago. Here’s the official announcement from MattyCollector.com. With the show launching next year, I’m guessing that we won’t see anything toy-related until Toy Fair next winter, and certainly nothing at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

VoltronMattel and Voltron™ Join Forces

‘Toy Fans,

If you were a kid back in 1984, no doubt you tuned in faithfully each week to watch the original giant robot: Voltron, Defender of the Universe™. This week, World Events Productions (WEP) and Classic Media announced that a new Voltron™ animated series will be airing on Nicktoons, Voltron Force™. And who’s going to develop an all-new line of Voltron toys to go with it? Mattel!

Voltron is one of the most iconic brands ever created, and the new show is going to be an epic action-adventure series that fans old and new alike are gonna love. It’s too early to talk about toy line specifics, but I can tell you our designers are working on some seriously sweet products!

Mezco 12-Inch Green Hornet and Kato

The Green Hornet (and Kato, of course) is more my older brother’s thing than mine – I hadn’t been born yet when it was on the air, and the Batman TV series got a lot more airtime in replays. Although produced by the same team, the Green Hornet played it straight while Batman camped it up – so I’ll have to find out how my brother feels about Seth Rogen in the role.

In any case, the toys are coming. These are the 12-inchers, and I’m not sure if Mezco will also be making ones that fit in with the 7-inch scale that’s prevalent for movie properties.

Green Hornet 1/6 Scale 12inch Figures

Mezco 12inch 1/6th scale figures are based on the characters from the upcoming big budget tent pole film from Sony Pictures. The Green Hornet, due to release January 2011. A classic character of film, television, radio, and comic books returns to the big screen in Columbia Pictures’ feature film The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogen as the vigilante crime-fighter. The film will be based upon “The Green Hornet” radio series created by George W. Trendle.

The 12 inch figures feature amazing attention to detail, perfectly capturing both the actor’s likenesses as well as the spirit of the characters.

The Green Hornet features 11 points of articulation, as well as an alternate right hand, gas gun, and real cloth coat. Kato features 9 points of articulation, and an alternate right hand with gun.

Both figures are packaged in a collector friendly window box.

The Green hornet and Kato ship in November 2010 and are available for pre-order at http://www.mezcotoyz.com/store/detail.aspx?ID=862

Jazwares A-Team on the Today Show

I could've gone for the "Bradley Cooper Plays With Himself" headline, but I'm not about shock journalism!

The stars of the upcoming big screen version of the A-Team – Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quentin “Rampage” Jackson, and Sharlto Copley – were on the Today Show today, and late in the segment got to briefly talk about and play with their toys from Jazwares. They didn’t have the A-Team van on the segment. I had to pick one of those up the other day, after my resolve was broken by the A-Team van review last week. It’s awesome!

Mattel Lands License for Voltron

Hot on the heels of Bandai’s announcement that they will be making toys to accompany the relaunch of ThunderCats, we’ve got another revival of a classic animated franchise from the ’80s. Voltron will also be getting a new animated series in 2011, on NickToons, and Mattel will be making the toys.

Voltron hasn’t been out of the market that long – the 25th anniversary was last year, and Toynami produced collector-oriented classic Voltron diecast and vinyl toys.
