SDCC 2014: Hasbro Goes Cosmic with Marvel Exclusives

Hasbro has released the details of its Marvel exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con, and we’ve got the pics in all their high res glory. Like last year, they’ve got figure packs in both the 3.75-inch (formerly Marvel Universe, now Marvel Infinite) and 6-inch (formerly Marvel Legends, now Marvel Legends Infinite) scales. The figures continue to be comics-based – this is for Comic-Con, after all – but this year there’s a unified Cosmic theme. The Marvel Legends Star Lord we knew was coming shows up in the Legends pack, as well as Hasbro’s second attempt at Black Bolt. There’s heavy reuse on the figures, all fan favorites, but I think they’re all smartly done with nothing to complain about at this stage.

The cosmic theme is a nice tie-in to Guardians of the Galaxy, which opens shortly after SDCC, but with the connections to Thanos on both exclusive packs, it begs the question – is Hasbro tying in to Marvel’s upcoming films in the cinematic universe? Thanos was revealed in one of the after credits scenes in The Avengers movie, but we were surprised that the big bad for Avengers 2 was Ultron. It might be too early to start hyping Avengers 3, but perhaps Thanos could rear his ugly mug in a Guardians sequel. Where do you guys think Thanos is going to show up?

Funko Guards the Galaxy with Blind Boxed Bobble Head Minis

Funko is adding more Guardians of the Galaxy to their product line-up. They’ve already got Pop Vinyl figures for the Guardians of the Galaxy coming in June – now they’re adding blind boxed mini figures. These ones will feature bobble heads, and if I’m understanding the images correctly, there will be versions of Nebula and Drax that glow in the dark. Why? I guess we’ll find out when the movie hits August 1st!

WebSwipe: First Look at Guardians of the Galaxy Minimates – Marvel.com

With Cap coming up in two weeks, I’ve almost forgotten there’s another Marvel movie this summer that I’m super excited to see – Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel has got a first look at the Marvel Minimates for the movie.

Gotta love what Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum can do with these things – but I’m a little disappointed Rocket Raccoon is said to be non-poseable.

Exclusive First Look at Guardians of the Galaxy Minimates

Pre-order this new set from Diamond Select Toys based off the upcoming film!

One of the biggest movies of 2014 just got really small! The Marvel Minimates line from Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum will introduce the Guardians of the Galaxy to the two-inch scale this summer, with a full assortment of characters from the highly anticipated feature film.

Guardians of the Galaxy Minimates

Anticipated to be in stores in time for the film’s August 1st premiere, the line will include four two-packs that will be available at comic shops and specialty stores. The two-packs will pair Star-Lord with Ronan the Accuser, Drax with Groot, Gamora with a Nova Corps Centurion and Nebula with a Sakaaran Trooper. Each two-inch, fully-poseable mini-figure features interchangeable parts and accessories, including a mask for Star-Lord, knives for Drax and a non-poseable micro-figure of Rocket to hang out with Groot!

The Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer Will Blow You Away

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Trailer Pic

The Guardians of the Galaxy just got its first official trailer, and flark if it didn’t blow me away. It hits on all the right notes, evoking Indiana Jones (Raiders Indy, not Crystal Skull Indy), Firefly, and even a little bit of the Usual Suspects. I think Marvel has nailed it with its casting again (why can’t Warner Brothers figure it out for DC?), and if this is a smash, Chris Pratt should be catapulted into RDJ heights of stardom. But make no mistake, I think Rocket Raccoon will steal every scene in this movie – both kids and adults will love him.

This is all good news for the toys. The Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Legends Infinite Series figures should hit shelves in July, and three LEGO Marvel sets for Guardians of the Galaxy should hit in June. The movie opens August 1st.
